You can just drop the crossmember to remove the sump but you will have to use an engine lift or engine cradle to hold the engine up as the engine mounts fit to the crossmember .

you can do it in the car but its a horrid job, bite the bullet enigine out isnt so bad on a saff or 3door, days work.
