Default 205 or 215 tyres

I have got soft spoke rs7's on my saph 4x4, i am going to get 4 new tyres soon and the current tyres are 215's

i have noticed 205's are abit cheaper, is there any reason why not to get 205's and stick with 215's?

thanks

215's are fine on the front mate, for even better on the grip, dependent on the wheel you'd be better off going for 235's on the back!

they are not alot skinnier though are they? i do get abit of rubbing on the front as well and i thought 205's would maybe sort that out?

205's will sort that out mate, for 215's you need to slightly roll your front arches

For 235's on the rear you need to do nothing at all!

205 and 7.5j wheels make the tire look stretched.
different brands of tire are better than others. i had falken 205 on 7 spokes and they were stretched. but i seen 205 toyo tires on 7 spokes and they looked fine.

215 for yours, why try and save a few quid when it will reduce grip. You cant go 235 even if wanted to as 4x4's need same size tyres front and back or it mess's up the VC.

i was just going to say,its 4x4, dont run different size tyres, unless the rolling radius is the same.....

215s rub a tad on 8inch wheels, 8x18, et35.

but not on my old 7.5s......

205 will be to skiny imo...

215s on a car that size, match the rolling radius front to rear and go as wide as you can on the rear staying within the above radius.

Dan,

that does depend on tyre choice and offset. As i found out 235/40/17 toyo 888 needs arch rolling at on my saff. Main reason being the 235 is actually 242 wide. Awesome for grip, but not for the arch lol

R888's are a different kettle of fish, as stated by Rich they are actually wider that is written on the sidewall.

the 205 measures 212 wide so pretty much as wide as a normal 215 tyre.

It would have been a LOT easier if FORD had just used decent sized tyres to start with!!

you are quite correct Nash. My new comp wheels are 8 inch wide and i use the 205 888 at teh front which look fine and the 235 at the rear which also look fine but required arch mods. Not Sure why toyo dont use the correct size on their adverts or sidewall lol

Which wasnt possible, the car would have needed larger archs. The car would have needed to use different panels/ rear end to get larger inner archs over the normal Saph shell, which in turn would have put costs up.
