Default quickshift grinding on a t5 box

hi,i bought a quickshift for my 2wd coss from the states,it cost pennies compared to what you would buy 1 for here.i fitted it and now it makes a grinding noise when driving.i have adjusted it and it seems to do it worst in fifth.i didnt use the nuts and threaded bar they supplied as i was lying under the car and the old bolts were easier to reach.im going to put the supplied bolts in this week and see if it makes any difference.it definately didnt make this much noise before!has anybody else had this bother and what did you do to cure it?cheers, lee

the bit where you say it costs pennies makes me think its junk.

I used a quick shift on two T5 boxes for years and had very little trouble at all.

It did cost almost 200 quid to buy tho.

Does the sound change when you press the gearchanger sideways while driving?

i use one and no issues except you can beat the syncros changing too fast

kind of makes it pointless

It suggest that pressure exerted from the new lever is the cause.

I have a B&M shortshift mounted on my T5.
It was mounted before i bought the car..
And it makes a weak sound, and it changes if i press the shifter sideways while driving. Mostly in 2nd and 3rd gear.. I can barely hear the sound in other gears, but its there.

Is it a possibility that it's the shortshift that is mounted wrong or something, and the gearbox is fine?
I have no problems at all with the gearbox, its smooth and free from sounds..

Got my B&M quickshift from the states also...same as the ones sold over here but for well under half the price, with no problems what so ever.

T5's don't like being rushed as someone already mentioned.
Does make them not really worth it.

But is it possible that the shortshift isn't correctly mounted?
Since the sound is changing when i press the stick sideways?
Smooth gearing, no problem getting it in gear etc.?

Sorry 155lee, for steeling your tread.
But seems like we have the same problem...

if it doesn't have the vibration damper on the stick it will sound like the box is fucked, I've welded them up without the damper when i've snapped them and you think did i fuck the box too

and if you don't have the boot on it makes it sound terrible also I had a stripped out car, it sounded terrible without the rubber boot on it put it on and a lot better.
