How many AMPS required for cable to fuel pump?

Considering re-wiring, wondering what spec cable to use??

KSA-Cossie 27-01-2008 07:35 PM

I used 10mm tri rated m8.

V over I X R = amps.
The std fuel pump consumes 13 AMPS at 12 VOLTS, so less than 13 amps as the voltage is usually around 13.5 or so.
Don't got mental on the cable size, don't even think about resistance at this level and length of lead.
I would go for 28/030 FLAT TWIN, so you beef the EARTH at the same time, this will carry 17.5 amps continuous.
If you want I can work out all the resistance values etc, but pointless you do NOT need cable big enough to jump start the QE2, despite what some tuners say.

go to a local car audio shop and get a cable which is used to power amps
comes complete with in built fuse(40 amp),wired mine to the battery
used the supply in the boot through a relay to make the earth.

cheers

I wired mine with a roll of 17amp cable (one red and one black) and a 3 pin spno relay cost less than a fiver all in :top:

Where is best for buying the cables? I've looked in Halfrauds and B&Q and wasn't very impressed???

cable etc

i just bought some of cpc in preston , (mail order also take switch etc ) they do it on 25m rolls ( normally 100m ) (cb09194), they also do the relay(sw02655) and fuse holders (cp03044) , if you check there site & put these part numbers (all spec comes up on product ) just to make sure the spec is ok for you , as these are only my interpretation of what is needed and have an account at work so it was easier for me than dealing with muppets in accesory shops saying whoo we don't do any that size m8 , must need a big cable for that one . :wall:
regards gaz

Go on either vehicleproducts.co.uk or polevolt.co.uk.
Don't under any circumstances use a 40 amp fuse, unless you like barbeques and cars together.
