I am wondering is the wing mirror for sapphire the same as the 3 door sierra ? can i fit a apphire miror to the 3 door model?

yep - wiring is also the same

I think they are different but will double check today as dad has a xr4i, and Ihave a cossie sapph, so will have a look, but sure wiring as said is the same.

One thing I did find is that UK spec ones are plastic framed where as some euro spec ones are a better quality metal frame - visually the same but heavier - still the same wiring though

I've been told the earlier models had a metal frame. Newer models have plastic frame mirrors because plastic is cheaper.
I'm almost certain 3-dr and saloon mirrors are the same.
I put the motor from leccy mirrors into my originally non-leccy mirrors. Don't like the metal frame. Always goes dull and is far more heavy than platic framed mirrors.

If its any help I've checked and my rs500 ones and 89 2wd saff ones are identical and both metal framed. I repainted the rs500 ones with satin black and they look mint.
