Catalytic converter
Bit of a strange one but please bear with me.
I am having some trouble getting my 2WD Sapphire registered here in Queensland and to satisfy the emissions standards I have to fit a cat converter. That in itself is a pain in th arse, but as the 2WD was never designed to have a cat fitted it makes it more of a challenge.
Can anyone tell me where the cat is fitted on a 4WD.
I can buy an aftermarket cat and have it welded in but it needs to be a close to the engine as possible.
Cheers in advance.

As said 4wd system would be the way to go.
But if you already have a cat, surely just find space and weld it in.
The position is not super critical, as it will get hot enough anywhere in the exhaust they are fitted nearest the front so they get hot quicker that's all.
If you do not want to strangle it, fit LPG, cheaper running and lower emmisions than cats, typically 0.0002 CO, as fitted to a rangey I was looking at last week.

the US 83 emmisions spec YB engines have two sets of cats - one primary one is fitted in the downpipe and the other set are fitted in the next section of exhaust system - they work in conjunction with a lambda probe which is fitted in the exhaust housing of the turbo which feeds info to the ecu
Your best option is to contact Stu of Motorsport developments - he can supply all the parts needed to convert your car to meet the regs via a closed loop system
If you fit cats without closed loop you wil quickly kill the cats with unspent fuel
Parts you require will be
L8 ecu
suitable chip
lambda probe and wiring
4x4 tps
cats (could be locally sourced and retro fitted to your exhaust)
its not a big job
Are they also insisting on fuel system vapour traps as thats usually another requirement in OZ - can also be done but is a bigger job

Testing the future
good advice from ^^^
my cossie in germany was 2wd and had been fitted with an L8 ecu from a 4x4 to have closed loop fuelling and a short sports cat in each of the 2 branches of the downpipe

Thanks for the advice.
Closed loop etc is something I was hoping to do when funds permit but for now I was just going to fit the cat to get the car through rego. I was going to fit it with flanges and replace it with with removed section after rego.
Fuel vapour traps have not been mentioned but with good ole Queensland transport you never know.

very risky as any overfueling will wreck the cats in a matter of a only a few miles
Get some expert advice before hand as you could be wasting money - the cats could be shot even before you get it to the test station and then bang goes your emmisions levels anyway
