So long as a 2wd is set up correctly it will be very driveable, but you MUST be restrained in the wet, or you WILL have an accident, there is no doubt on this.
A 4wd will be that much "safer" in the wet.
I have recently had mine set up correctly after some mods and it is so much more driveable now, which is what I aimed for and got along with 330bhp/330 lbft, so long as you can restrain yourself 2wd will be perfectly useable.
There are further advantages to 2wd over 4wd, such as cheaper to run, less to go wrong, stronger gearbox etc, but in the wet in an ideal world I would use a 4wd, as the power would be more accessible.
So really it is personal choice.

if you do use it in the wet get uniroyal rainsports, not the best in the dry but at a recent track day i did it was chucking it down and the tyres were balling up and realy sticky, the harder you pushed the better they were, but maybe not good enough for a greasy wet roundabout and an enthusiastic right foot, mixed with some nearby railings!

I have Uniroyal Rainsport 1's on my 2wd, not the absolute best in the wet, but second IMO.
The best ones by far I ever used were GOODYEAR EAGLE VENTURA, but not sure if these are made anymore ?

2wd, loads of fun but beware of them because you start to get confident and start relaxing when pressing on and the inevitable WILL happen.
See..............
(Thought Id put them up before Lawnsy did, git )

Not seen them for years, I had them about 9 years ago.
Use Eagle F1's now, very good in the wet.

ive always had respect for cossies wanted one from the age of 10 now im 26 get a clean licence next year (driving too fast in works van not car)so can afford to get one so was thinking if 2wd wasnt too bad it might calm me down compared to a 4x4 where i might get too confident but ive had rs turbo s1 & 2's & a fiesta rst so its time to move up a stage but ive got full respect for the cossie as ive waited so long to be able to own one.

FWD to turbo RWD
My NA rwd has caught me out a couple times, bugger a cossie lol.
4x4 has a fair % of power to rear, can kind of get the arse out, just it won't bite as hard if you over cook it.
