Saf Cos not running after jet washing engine bay.

Just posting this on behalf of my friend. After jet washing the engine bay of his 4X4 saff the car starts but as soon as you touch the accelerator it cuts off. Just wanted to know if anyone has had this before? and what the cause is? any help would be appreciated.

Its simply got water somewhere it shouldn't have, like in a plug for something like the Throttle Position Sensor. Its going to be a case of removing each plug, drying them and spraying them out with WD40 until it runs again. ;)

foreigneRS 22-11-2007 09:08 AM

as above :top: but start with drying the inside of the distributor cap ;)

SapphyMike 22-11-2007 09:58 AM

WD40 is bad for electrical connectors isnt it?

foreigneRS 22-11-2007 10:05 AM

it's better than water

the idea is that it displaces the water, but much better is to blast it out with compressed air :top:

Is this true?

(WD40 is bad for electrical connectors isnt it?)

SapphyMike 22-11-2007 10:23 AM

WD40 can cause rust on the electrical contacts.

But yea, ultimately it is preferable to water

i would say water would corrode your connectors more than wd 40
most connectors corrode because they are old and corroded and someone has probably jet washed them before for you :top:

shouldn't jet wash cars IMHO, they are shit anyway, and just blow grease out of all the joints and fuck electrics up.... Just put a bit of elbow grease in and do it properly :top:
