Rear brakes
I am considering upgrading the rear brakes. What would you recommand if AP 330mm vented discs 4 pots calipers are fitted at the front ?
I think I will go with 300mm vented discs and 2 pots calipers, but where to find that for the back of a saph cos 4x4 ? Also does anyone knows where I can find separates calipers for the hand-brake ? |
300mm big disc kit with escort cossie calipers :D

I have AP 330's and 4 pots up front and on the back 300mm vented with standard new calipers :top: stops sweet ;)

So would the R&B rear brakes conversion "pack" be right for the back ?
And what about the separate calipers for the handbrake ? :) |
i dont think you will need to have that much extra braking power at the rear.
a big disc kit will do the job perfectly (just as Mike sells) or you may find you have to much rear end braking power - which isnt good! |
Yes well I will go for the big rear disc kit from r&b but now what about handbrake calilper ? Car will be used on some rally stages (tarmac) and will need quick and strong blocking on the rear wheels, so doubt the normal calipers will do the job. Anyone got links for separate caliper for handbrake ?

the kits utilise the standard caliper mate, so handbrake will work as normal :?
didnt realise you was after quick activation for extra features. maybe you should look at going hydraulic handbrake aswell then, its going to cost you a few pennies but what your after isnt going to be a cheap kit atall!! |
Yes mate want to go with hydraulic handbrake but won't go until "transmission cut" when using handbrake. I remember seeing this mod on a car there, but can't remember who made it, it was quite some time ago. :)

This will obviously then allow for the fitting of hydraulic 4 pots on the back. |

Still being worked on / tested at the minute Xen
Will post up when ready |
Are you required a seperate handbrake in Switzerland? All rally cars I've dealt with use the hydraulic handbrake inline with the standard 4 pot rear calipers and no seperate handbrake caliper.
Demon Tweeks sells a direct bolt in dual master cylinder setup that can allow adjustment of front to rear bias also. On the Group A pre-pneumatic center diff cars,Ford's hydraulic handbrake had dual master cylinders, one of which was a clutch master cylinder that disengaged the clutch disc as well to keep from ruining the center diff when you lock up the rear wheels but still have power to transmission. You could try to find that part or fabricate it pretty easily. |
Well Grant I am not sure yet which way to go, what I need is an hydraulic handbrake. Would be great to have the clutch release, but I'm afraid that would cost another grand, or so. Would prefer to just push the clutch, but yes the rear 4 pots with twin master cylinder setup would be nice. Have to look now. :wall:
