Radiator??
 

Hi,

Ive got a 2wd saff cossie, running about 335 bhp....

i want to change the radiator, and was either going to get mine re-cored or get an alloy thicker cored one. If i get the alloy one will it make the car run to cold????

not if you've got a thermostat fitted

If you are going to get another rad made, forgot alloy, go copper as it has just over twice the heat dissipation properties of alloy, these are around £200 one off made, are a LOT stronger and last a LOT longer.
As jon@work says thermostat controls temp not rad size, but cossie rads are a bit weedy to start with so upgrade a good idea.

also if i were to get an rs500 (style) intercooler, as this sits in front of the rad would it restrict air flow to the rad and make it hotter??

I have an rs 500 and it has a new alloy 50mm cored rad - the fan sensor doesn't get on well with it (have heard that elsewhere on here too) and always cuts in early - watch out for that. Oh and yes - the intercoller deffo makes them run hotter - thats why the rs500 came with an 82degree thermosat as standard.

The RS500 i/cooler will block a little airflow, but no amount that will matter, as you will still have way more cooling than a normal rad with no cooler in front.
The only time a rad can make something run hotter is when it is a crap rad, or it is not getting suffecient cooling airflow, which is not the case with yours, far from it.

Yeah, same problem here. Fan cuts in a little early and also due to heatsoak from the metal rad the fan switch seems to keep the fans cut in for aaggggeeeeeee'ssss :cry:

Yeah I've wired the fan to mannual now. Done a check and the fan cuts in way too early at around 78degrees. Bit of a pain that!

The fan cuts in at 78 C, most likely because this is more than the max temp of the stat fully open when the water hits the TOP of the rad, so it's working as it should.

Temps were originally checked at thermosat housing minus stat - sorry should have said that.

Checked the stat at 82 tab - it was a new one so no suprises. Pain to fit!

Also have a capiliary bulb in the block so pretty confident it was coming in way too early. Seems like a common complaint but not sure if it is brand related???
