track car sapp

as i`m breaking my rs2000 track car to buy another cossie to use as a track car (kept road legal though) what are the pro`s and cons of going 4x4 sapph???????

basically i fancy a 4x4 but i`m worried about killing boxes and diffs plus i was once told when lowered lot the front drift shafts can pop out...........

what sort of power could i have before i need to up rate everything????

i will take on a 2wd sapph if one comes up that i like :top:

the lowering problem can be overcome by using xr4x4 front shafts which are marginally longer and dont pop out.

Gearbox, easily obtainable forma 2.0 dohc xr4x4 (all you do is change clutch fork and pin) and its the same box without the cossie price tag, plus its only ever been run on a 2.0 shitbox with fuckall power so should be in good nick

The diffs etc... should be ok for stage 3 power but if not the xr4x4 ones again fit straight on and are same as cossie but shorter ratio I think so more acceleration (probably a good thing if its a track car)...if front diff cacks itself get a steel sandwich plate from somewhere like R&B

Stripping it out helps make it go better too :D

For the shafts, use XR4x4 ones as they are slightly longer, uprated engine mounts help too as worn mounts are often the cause of the shafts popping out.

As for boxes and diffs, i don't think you would have much hassle at around stage 3, over that and you may start to have box issues if used hard. I may be wrong though, so don't hold me to that.

I had a 3dr which i used for quite a few trackdays, then decided i would buy a 4x4 saph for trackdays as it would be more useable for the road as well, i hate 4x4, give me back my 2wd   4x4 does grip well but its so boring to drive plus the gearbox's are horrible compared to the T5 box.

Simon.

cheers for the advice guys but i said i could be pushed towards another 2wd sapp if one came up........ i`m going to look at one tomorrow  there really is only one colour sapph i like and they didnt come in 4x4`s so in order to get the colour i had to go 2wd    crystal blue all the way  just hope she is worth the travel to look at her, obviously i`m not after mint but at the same time i dont want a complete pile of junk
