I seriously looked into this conversion for my previous sierra (non cosworth) with a company called Top Boss performance. Forgotten contact details but i know the basic conversion was around £2500 to £3000. For around £10,000 i read that around 450bhp and the same amount of torque was available. After further research i found that cars fitted with the standard v6 weren't that fast, 0-60 about 8 sec, and top speed didn't seem impressive either.

The only car fitted with this engine that seriously interested me was the car that belonged to the owner of top boss, Fitz Pinnock. It was a RS500 shell with 450bhp spec engine. I don't know any times for this car though as the only time it was tested on a track in a mag it had problems with the rear diff. i lost interest in the end and got a 4x4 saph cossie. Still interested by the enigne though.

One thing though, Burton Power didn't have many good things to say about the engine though when i rang them, whereas Fitz was singing about it when i rang top boss, but he was trying to sell me the conversion though.

Top Boss don't carry a very good reputation, i can't see why anyone would want to put a v6 into a cosworth when there is power and torque readly available from the engine thats in it

it might well be worth converting a non yb engined sierra with a 24v, or one with a 12v v6.

it's a good upgrade on the original v6, 200+ bhp as standard vs 150.

Agree with pjay (for once )
And the cossy engine is a better engineered bit of kit with more potential and a vast amount of uprated parts available, so why change it for something that would cost 3 times as much to get the same kind of power out of?

would be interesting in a non cossy ford though if you have the cash

2 of my mates have 24v sierra's, 1st is an XR4i with 24v lump & the other bought a 1.6L 3dr with a cossie kit on it that was already fitted with a 12v 2.8 engine, he bought a granada 24v for I think about £600 & swapped all the bits over, both of them seem to rate the engine but its not my cuppa tea.

Cheers Simon.

Recon cost round £1000 with havin to buy engine and all the bits new clutch - engine mounts etc - and drop m8 few bob for use of his gararge - used the original ex system had to cut and weld - got the 4x4 for £500 .. so now its a £1500 car !

Removed the original harness as well - fitted grannie one - modded the 4x4 sump for the head oil returns - cut away the oil splash garurd to miss the front diff recess - drop in 24v engine and connected water system up - most things just the same as the 12v engine .. worst was pulling the dash out to get the wires made up - oh and loosing the key code for the radio lol

done it to my XR4i myself, took me 5 days over Christmas, its a vast improvement on the 12v V6. The donour cars are cheap. probably faster than my old standard 3 door cossy. But parts can be expensive.
