saph horn not working

got into a bit of road rage last nite, when to blast em on the horn n give em some shit!

the pissing thing dont even work!!! :wall: :wall:

is this a common fault? wot could it be? the horn its self or wiring? whats the easiest way to find out?

:top:

you need to pull the steering cowling off to have a look first
the horm switch plug is at the top (little black plug which is a bastard to get disconnected)
short the 2 bits out with a poke of wire to see if the horn actually works
if thats the case then you will find that its either the push switch for the norn (which means getting a new switch) or the rings inside the stering wheel (been there, done that, almost impossible tosolder back on properly again) which means anotehr steering wheel

thanks dojj, will try that 2nite :DD:

i'll put some pics up later, but in case you are going to take the steering wheel off, make sure you turn the ignition lock off first, otehrwise you'll never get the thing off ;)

i'll post some pics if i can find what you need to be looking for

dojj 16-08-2006 07:26 PM

when you pull the cover off you will see this
as you prise the inner horn push off, you need to make sure you are prising the outer portion of the horn push not the wobly bit you push in and out or else you will break it
you need to dig deeper and use a pair of smaller screwdrivers and work your way around

and this is the other side

i don't have any pics of what you will find under the steering wheel though as i ain't got no bits left

sometimes the little spade clip can just jump off ,this happened me and was a mighty quick easy fix ,lol,

thats the only quick easy fix on a cossie

Cawood 17-08-2006 08:48 AM

thanks for that dojj, still haven't had a go at it yet so that a great help

had to prospone it as there more important things to fix on it now!

Cawood 28-09-2006 09:10 AM

still not done this

but defo gonna av a look 2nite

the horn does make a sound now (everytime) but its just quiet

do you think thats the actual horn that is fooked?

:top:

dojj 28-09-2006 09:51 AM

could be, have you tried to give it pure power directly?
fused and safe of course, but you should hear it working
put a wire to the horn itself
trail itout to the battery
find a fused fuse holder type thing
whack a fue into it
touch the other side ot eh + of the battery
the horn should give out a bit of a loud parp!
if it don't then you've have to se if the earthing point was ok or not
otherwise the horn is probably fooked as it's got water damage or something from living so close to the road
