Puma...wont start electrical mayhem

the Mrs' car had about 4 months and has been okay but randomly wont start

ignition on and the fuel pump relay clicks like crazy i wiggled it and it stopped and the pump primed

go to turn the engine over and it clicks away again and everything on the dash goes crazy rev and speedo needles wave all over the place engine warning like flashes like mad, engine wont trn over

ive given the TPS and MASS sensor plugs a wiggle too, battery is holding 13.4 volts fine

any help greatly appreciated

Battery clamps tight? Could also check for loose earth points.

Mr Sam 19-05-2011 07:33 PM

loosened them and given them a wiggle and tightened them up again, along with the engine earth wire

Yeh my bet would be an earth point somewhere.

The ecu earths in the NSF footwell.

cleaned all the earths in the engine bay, battery is holding 13.4volts

car starts fine on jump leads off another car, with the engine running the battery is 14.5v so im guessing battery and charging circuits are fine

stop the engine, and again wont start everything dies, stats fine again off jump leads so give it a drive up and down the drive

ABS and traction light come on at 5mph and go off again when stopped, car still wont start off its own battery :S

Have you tried a different battery? As you say it starts ok but still could have a dry cell or something that could be causing lack of current. I would try another just to eliminate it.

had the same problem on mine, was the battery that needed replacing
