not a bad job comes out of the bottom, think you have to move the anti roll barlink to squeeze it out.

It is straight forward as long as you have the special tool required for the auxillary belt tensioner. Its not so simple without it.
The tensioner has two 1/2" holes in it in which the special tool fits. The tool is sort of y shaped so you can lever the tensioner back to get the belt on.

ok thanks for the advice, i dont have the tensioner tool, so i think im gunna have probs, anyone no where u can get one?

fordnut 19-08-2011 09:06 AM

Local car parts shops near you might stock the tool. Companies like Laser and sealey tools make them.

ok thanks buddy

Or you can cut a 1/2" extension bar and use a spanner on the end of your really stuck.

Change the belt when you are that far along as its not easy to change and you have to remove the alternator if changing it.

nice one thanks for that

Did our one, had to bring it out of the wheel arch as it would not come out of the top or bottom, had to make the special tool aswell ,found it easier doing the gearbox change on my rs turbo

2wd saff cos @ stage 3 20-08-2011 10:26 AM

yea i can see it clearly from the wheel arch, so thats a good starting point, im jus not looking forward to this belt as it seems to be a pain in the arse

2wd saff cos @ stage 3 20-08-2011 01:31 PM

well the alternators loose, jus dont have a clue bout loosening this tensioner :?

dojj 20-08-2011 01:49 PM

if you have to do the air con pump, just pay someone, mine's been on the blink for 8 months and i've only just got round to getting it out of position

the petrol ones are a walk in the park

2wd saff cos @ stage 3 20-08-2011 01:56 PM

i was goin to pay someone to do the alternator as i cant be bothered, but ppl are on hol or way to busy and i cant really wait as i have no car

2wd saff cos @ stage 3 20-08-2011 04:31 PM

ok where is the tensioner? theres so many pulleys

dojj 20-08-2011 05:17 PM

take a pic?

if it was petrol i'd explain with pics as i've got one apart but the diseasal ones seem to be much more different

have you asked over on www.talkford.com ? as they know stuff even they don't know :)

2wd saff cos @ stage 3 20-08-2011 07:09 PM

i have dojj but no can show me just how to loosen it, all i can get is how to remove it

fordnut 20-08-2011 07:27 PM

Looking at the bottom pulley, the tensioner is just above to the left. You can't loosen it as such as it is spring loaded. I have some pics from when i did mine, i can try posting them if it would be of any help?

2wd saff cos @ stage 3 20-08-2011 07:43 PM

that would be a big help if u could, thank you

fordnut 20-08-2011 08:10 PM

If you pm me your email address i will mail them to you. I cant access photobucket for some reason.

This one shows new and old on the bench, see the 2 x 1/2" square holes that the special tool slots into.
