It's going to get even more expensive if you just keep stabbing in the dark.

It could be a hundred things.
Are there any fault codes recorded?
How long does it run before it dies?
Has it got fuel?

If it's got a idle valve I'd clean that first with carb spray cheap fix if it's dirty

The fuel pumps are bad for clogging up,you need to lift the rear seat, cut the hole in the floor bigger then remove the pump.
Mother in laws focus has had 2 pumps over the years for this.
There's a fine gauze on the pump inlet and it gets clogged with dirt or a gel substance.
It's free to check it,alternatively you could drop the tank but that's a load of hassle.

I agree with above, sounds like fuel pressure or starvation
