Default ST 170 Cam belt

Hi.
Just bought a ST170 with 80000 miles and 05 plate. I'm hoping to do the cambelt at the weekend, has anyone got any info on this, I think there like a normal Zetec except the VVC which is best left alone ??

Thanks Andy

Yeah pretty much like doing a normal zetec, a couple of torque settings are different and looking at a diagram the inlet cam has a slightly bigger slot for the setting bar and needs a feeler gauge adding to centralize the cam when timing the engine up.

On the Car SOS program "Buzz" showed an easy way to change a cam belt, He slit the belt with a blade lengthways ,he marked all of the wheel positions and then removed the outer half of the belt. He could then push the new belt on halfway, cut off the other old half and fully push on the new one. Then he tied up the belt with tie wraps at the belt tensioner to take up the tension and replaced the tensioner itself with a new one. Marks on the wheels shouldn't of moved.

Default St170 cambelt

hi what kit did you use for your st170?
I am after a cambelt kit for my 2004
but everyone I have asked have said
they don't do a after market kit for a st170🤔
Do anyone know if the tensioner from a ford maverick fits the st170 as it looks the same?
gates seems to do a tensioner but two different part numbers I will add photos of the tensioners for the gates ones

Default Tensioner

I bought a genuine one in the end but I did
compair it to the Ford Maverick 2.0 in GSF and its the same. The gates T43003 one is the same as well. I went to my local focus breaker and he had 2 st170's both with snapped cambelt's with just the standard 2.0
zetec tensioner on so that's why I've gone with a genuine one. The tension on the genuine one is a lot stronger than the standard zetec one.
