Default Focus ST 2 Oil filter housing diaphram fault

Afternoon all, first time posting I recently became the proud owner of a Focus ST-2 (2006). Having driven it fairly hard since purchase, it's recently developed a problem. The engine is constantly whistling (like an old fashioned kettle). Having read up about this it appears to be oil filter housing diaphram fault. When I remove the dipstick, the pressure is released. I've sourced a new part direct from Ford for £175 (I did read it may be cheaper at Volvo but no luck there). Does anyone have any experience of fitting these? Are they straight forward enough? I'd like to have a go myself to save money but also learn a bit more. Thanks in advance in anticipation of your responses, Tom

Straight forward enough when I did mine.
Fiddley part is getting the air box in and out if you are still running it.
You also need to move the ecu to the side, then it's straight forward enough.

Thanks for the reply mate and nice saph cossie by the way how long did it take you to do when you replaced it? Presumably you did an oil change at the same time? Anything else to keep an eye out for? Cheers

On the STs, to remove the airbox it's easier if you drop the radiator support down, it makes it easier to get the airbox out.

Also when you change the filter housing there's a plastic pipe to be careful of not snapping...

I really struggled moving the air box etc, I managed to move it across and work around it, was a bit fiddly when I replaced my mates. Sure I did unbolt the radiator cradle too.

If it's never been out the wiring loom is clipped to it..Most have been out by now, but they can be a bastard to remove!!

Not the easiest engine to work on really...

Don't get me started on the 42-44? bolts that hold the cam cover on

I had to take a head off one that had a cracked block, I was like "How many fucking bolts hold this on!!"

When we did one we got our parts from car parts express (graham) it was a volvo part and he included the plastic pipe because they snap as soon as you look at it.

I have heard of plenty of people saying they break, so well worth changing.

Thanks for the pointers chaps. Much appreciated. I will be doing this tomorrow so wish me luck! Got the spare pipe on standby also in case the old one snaps on me. Do you know of any step by step guides out there for doing this job? I'm hoping it will be alright but never hurts to have a plan B to resort to!?! Thanks again

Thanks for the inputs chaps. Did the job Saturday morning. Took about 2 and a half hours in the end (photos helped massively, cheers mate) but did an oil change and the connecting pipe snapped as a few predicted it would! Fiddly engines to work on but she's back purring like a beaut again! Got me thinking it's time to go for an exhaust and chip! May have to open a new topic...

Glad it's up and running mate.

Exhaust wise depends on the sound you want.

DB performance in north wales
Make a very loud system with sod all back box, kMS make loud systems.
I had a resonated scorpion on mine and was good.
Loud when booting it but wasn't drowning on a motorway.

I'd of preferred a louder one though.

Maps the same, depends what you want. Won't get better than a custom map but if you want flexibility there's a few systems out there with changeable maps.

I had Dreamscience maps and was spot on for what I wanted.
