Fuel consumption............sorry if I'm repeating.
Hi, I have finally managed too talk the bf into selling the bmw and getting another car, I did want a fiesta ST but with 2kids I really should get a focus, now I'm not so worried about running round town but I do the best part of 280 miles every other weekend, half is main a roads and the rest is dual carriageway and motorway, what realistically do u reckon its gonna cost fuel wise!? Are the focus's any good on fuel!? Also I'm a sensible driver for 140 of those miles!!! Currently got a 330d touring ATM.
Cheers in advance Xx |
A Focus ST225? (not a ST170?)
You'll be lucky to get into the 20s pootling around town although 30+ is possible on a run. I do 400 miles a week and that costs me about £80 > £85 in fuel 90% pootling /10% maximum attack. |
Yea a st 225, only do about 50 miles about town... To and from work and shopping, it's more the long drive that worries, currently putting 40-50 quid in too do the long journey in a 330d auto (starting too do my head in being a auto) just trying too work out if its gonna be stupidly higher getting the st!?
|
Average out on 25 mpg and you'll be about there. Shame the beemer's an Auto, as its a quick car.
|
It's quick when in sport mode, I just think autos are for bigger 4x4, ok thanx for that will work it out with that figure!!!!
I need speed!!!! Xx |
I'm still averaging 30+ in the 18 months I've had mine. (and nearly 30k miles) :top:
Modifying them slightly with a map and an uprated intercooler increased my MPG! |
:top: looking promising then!!!! Better than a mk1 rs I would guess!?
Xx |
With the Mountune on mine, sportscat, exhaust air filter and KAM pulled, i dont get anywhere near 30 mpg and thats not gun ho driving. The best we managed has been 33mpg at 60 mph. Mixed driving is 25.5 mpg.
|
My st (standard) returns at best 20-22 mpg over the last 4 1/2 month, boot it and that drops to about 15-18 mpg!
Maybe a re-map might help but at best thats only going to give about 3mpg more and thats being generouse. I knew when i bought my st petrol and mpg would be an issue, if this is the case for yourself then dont buy one. (edited cos i went out and checked the mpg) |
12-16 mpg (30 votes [1.39%])
16-18 mpg (96 votes [4.43%]) 19-21 mpg (359 votes [16.57%]) 22-24mpg (771 votes [35.60%]) 25-27 mpg (595 votes [27.47%]) 28-30 mpg (233 votes [10.76%]) 30+ mpg (you never know!) (82 votes [3.79%]) This is the results of a mpg poll on the ST owners club with mixed driving and mixed roads if it helps any? PS:i wouldnt get rid of my st now regardless of fuel, i love the damn thing soooo much |
Drive mine steady on a run and it'll do just over 30mpg, around the doors mid 20s. People always bang on about how shit they are on fuel but I don't think they are too bad at all for what they are. They weigh loads too!
|
I seem to be stuck at 22.5mpg regardless of how i drive. lol

I have had my ST-3 225 since Jan, I am very happy with it but I could not recommended on Fuel economy, in the cold on short runs we were averaging 18mpg and most of this was my wife pootling about with the kids in the car. We do get around 28mpg on longer runs. However as a family car it works very well the only issues I have with the ST-3 (not ST-2 or 1) is that it is a strictly 4 seater, there is no middle belt and there is only 1 isofix point, I am not sure if this is because it is an ST or because it is an ST-3. Also the rear belts are awkward to fasten with a child seat, again this could be the ST-3. If you want a 5 door then you might have to wait for the right car to come up, it took me 9 months to find the right car! However it is a lot of fun and I enjoy it every time I get in it. When you hear the 5 pot burble you won't care about fuel economy!

I can't understand how may people complain about the efficiency of them. It's like having your heating on at home all the time, then moaning you've got a big gas bill lol |
It all depends on how you use the car really, Short trips with lots of starting and stoping you'll see less than 20mpg, Long trips driving at 50mph no stops you'll see over 30mpg.
If your going to be using it for mostly school runs and just driving down the road don't buy one. |
I can get a good 32mpg out of mine on a long motorway drive but that's with no boost at all barely touching the throttle. Can anyone seriously resist pushing the go pedal though? Any more than even the lightest touch will start it spooling up so just be prepared that it's no tourer and will hurt your pocket to a degree, nobody buys them because of their fuel economy. Always buy for fun :D

To say that is bad economy, then yes it is compared to a 1 litre fiesta, however it's a turbocharged 2.5 litre 5 cylinder so that's not too bad economy for what it is.

I am not complaining, just sharing my experience, I went into ST ownership with my eyes wide open, plus I have a diesel Mondeo, which was bought for efficiency. As I said when you hear the 5 pot burble you do not worry about fuel economy.
I wasn't suggesting you were, just that a lot of people do!! I've got a diesel mondeo that I use as my daily too, my ST must do about 3k a year lol |
