Default QUAIFE CLOSE RATIO DOG GEARBOX and LSD for ST170

NOW SOLD - NOW SOLD - NOW SOLD

Ford Focus Mk1 ST170 Getrag gearbox built with QUAIFE 6-speed, dog-engagement, semi-helical, close-ratio gearset QKE34Z AND QUAIFE ATB limited-slip differential QDF38Z. The gearset could also be rebuilt into the similar Getrag 285 gearcase of the Mini Cooper S R53 and R56 gearbox.

Please note that this dogbox is not suitable for road cars. It is a competition item, that comes from a car I hillclimbed, and had previously been circuit-raced. It requires tchnique, is loud, and the size of the crownwheel means the standard Hall sensor for the speedometer is disabled and the speedo will not work. But it allows clutchless upshifting!

The Quaife gearset has the 'Rally' ratios of 3.846, 2.737, 2.148, 1.729, 1.367, 1.000, and final drive ratio of 3.409. It retails from Demon Tweeks for more than £3,600. Details here:

http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motors...ratio-gear-kit

The Quaife ATB LSD currently retails from Demon Tweeks for £690. Details here:

http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motors...d-differential

The complete box, including selector cables adapted to use rod-ends for sale at £1,250 delivered to a UK mainland address. Can be inspected beforehand in central Edinburgh.

Please PM me for more details.

I can go take a pic. But it looks exactly like a bog-standard ST170 Getrag box on the outside (except, maybe, it's clean) because all the different bits are inside.

Not planning to bench strip it for pics, I'm afraid. But happy to split the cover off it to confirm what's in the box for anyone in person.

Ok no problem! You've only listed 5 ratios. I take it its 2nd you've missed? Also the taller 1.100 ratio is not listed with the low diff. Or is that interchangeable. A 1.000 listed . Thanks

Sorry, I really dont know enough about the RS combo to advise you how whether there is a mating problem at all. I'd suggest you buy the car first.....

The box was apparently built by Quaife for this repected racer:

When the owner installed a Duratec for 2013, the box was redundant. I bought it from him after it had apparently been back through the Quaife workshop. I had it opened for inspection and reassembly by Jack Coulthard in Paisley.

I then used it in an ST170 I was running in a road production tintop class of the Scottish Hillclimb Championship for a couple of seasons - the car was only used for these events, driving the car to and from. But the car was only ever a stop gap until buying a more serious development. Before selling the car in 2015 I reinstalled the original box, and it's been collecting dust in the corner.

Easiest way to confirm contents is to pull the speedo sensor, stick your finger in, and appreciate that it cant run a working sensor because there is a f&*%ing great crownwheel that is unique to this gearset.

Finally, I am being VERY real about the price for the box - which incorporates a Quaife ATB LSD. So I figure cash for this firm price, please.

But I plan to deliver the box myself and I anticipate a deposit before putting it in the back of my car. You are then welcome to pull the coverplate while I hold your wallet. Or visit me in Edinburgh and you can see under the coverplate for free.

PM me for more please.

Sorry, but in order for me to take it anywhere I would need a NON-RETURNABLE deposit equivalent to £1 per mile, which will then obviously come off the firm price. Hope you understand I cant really do 'sale or return'?

Ratios are listed in original posting. You need to apply info on tyre sizes and engine speeds to calculate road speeds. Here's a link to a simple calculator, hope it helps....

That seems a bit of a bargain to me. It's a shame it won't fit onto my RS2000 lump, as I'd probably bite your hand off at that price.

Thanks for the endorsement, you're right!

But caveats are that this is not for daily drivers (or road cars, really) and will only fit an ST170, or the gearset can be transplanted directly to relevant Mini Coopers with the similar Getrag box.

does the 2000 not share the same bell housing pattern as a blacktop?

Yeah that is an issue. Better suited to track/race/rally cars so does limit the market a bit. Might be worth an ad on somewhere like www.rallycarsforsale.net. I sell much more on there than I do on here these days.

The bolt pattern is the same, but the RS2000 can't take a rear-mount starter unfortunately, which I think the ST170 uses?

Yeah they're rear mounted. That's unfortunate.

I have considered purchasing it myself. But it's a lot of money for me, with no real guarantee that it works.
