MK2 Focus RS's, tuning potential?

What are the common tuning routes of the new RS? I understand the cylinder liners and turbo are the limitations after 340bhp? what sort of costs are involved. Plus what is the actual factory bhp of this model?

R5FORD May 20, 2011 12:27 PM

300 hp standard.

Depending on power your after you can get

340- with a performance air filter and ECU remap

360- Air filter, ECU remap, Turbo Back exhaust, Inter cooler

400- Air filter, ECU remap, Turbo Back exhaust, Inter cooler, uprated bosch injectors

then after that youll be looking at, bigger injectors, forged pistons and rods, big turbo conversion, clutch and flywheel.

and a cracked block too

chaffe May 20, 2011 12:39 PM

I see, the std turbo good for 400 bhp then? Why was i thinking they were less than 300 bhp std

RstAaron. May 20, 2011 12:40 PM

300bhp standard... If your lucky. Most iirc fall someway short of that.

R5FORD May 20, 2011 12:43 PM

some where less than 300 but later ford released a update so had to go down and book it in and get the ecu reflashed with the new update then it was 300hp iirc.. I read theres so Rs's running 450-470 hp so if the block hasnt cracked then they must be pretty good.

There a different block to the St one iirc.

Rsmat May 20, 2011 01:07 PM

I've not heard of any blocks cracking on the Rs ... The ST's yes.

Ginge ! May 20, 2011 01:08 PM

wait and see !

Rsmat May 20, 2011 01:08 PM

Yes they are different.

chaffe May 20, 2011 03:01 PM

thought the blocks were the same, just the RS had thicker liners

PKA May 20, 2011 03:16 PM

The later st's have the same block I think it was around 2008 reg cars, they share the same plasma lined block ;-)

Rsmat May 20, 2011 03:24 PM

Your info is a bit dated Mate, there has been 2 subsequent ECU maps/calibration since launch.

Most cars on Fords latest CJ calibration make over 300 bhp.

Mountune warrantied up grade with SC calibration is circa 356 bhp.

Mountune stage 2 about to come out at circa 380-400bhp.

v man May 20, 2011 03:32 PM

with the zetec and duratec being such a great engine i really cant understand why ford used a bottom end with liners

think someone in development has a r5 ggt lol

Was going by what I heard from people that got them when they were first released and reports in the mags etc. Makes little difference now as most RSs seem to have at least a re-map anyway! Lol :-)

Oh, fully forged etc, that should be good!

BRAM May 21, 2011 10:18 PM

Yeah last time i was at sitech he had just finished a forged build on a mk2 rs it was a green one with orange wheels, i think he had only drove once or twice and had a problem with the clutch slave leaking.

Im sure he said he was doing something similar to his aswell. He knows his stuff

i only think its a problem with the liners, the block will be ok. There was a thread on here with a volvo t5 that was cracking the liners , above 500bhp though iirc. But the rs liners may be different i dont know...

R5FORD May 23, 2011 06:51 AM

I cant see why anyone would want over 500hp in a fwd car.. I think 400hp is more than enough before problems start to occur :king:

Hey up Bez,

not done owt on the fez as im trying to source some mk4 zetec hubs so I can wheel the car to work. Putting all my efforts onto the firm at the mo due to times being more than hard in this climate, really need 6 numbers on the lottery :-(

344 isnt bad for an old van pal!!!!!
