Are there any quality aftermarket oil and water pumps for a Foc RS mk1?
As Titled. I'm building a CGI blocked engine and was wondering what the aftermarket pumps were like. Would I be best fitting billet gears in a standard housing (oil) but what about waterpumps?

Ooh, wonder if opinions will be as polarised as they were a year or so ago...You don't say if the engine is going to NA or turbo and what sort of power/rev band you'll be setting it up for? Short life competition or low mileage weekend road car.
Firstly, reputably supplied standard replacements are often manufactured by suppliers to Ford as OEM. Then again there is also cheap rubbish from the Far East !
Oil pump - there were two interesting theories on rotor failure of the OEM sintered pump; firstly just high revs over ~7,200rpm; secondly the replacement of the front pulley with solid alloy one, either smaller or as part of UDP kit. The OEM pulley is certainly heavy, but it is also a torsional damper. Removing that damper function is said to give the oil pump rotors a 'harder life'. Certainly the 'billet' rotors are made from better quality material, but that's not to say sintered ones are faulty; they've been used on many a fire breathing, but not high revving, turbo engine.
The other, and reliable alternative is 'dry sump'. Again, depending on install, can be a problem for space and other engine driven ancillaries.

Waterpump - FRS pumps are still around, but the main problem if the cooling system can't cope is more the flow restrictions to the pump and from it to the block. That's the area Mountune (and later Cosworth) worked on for WRC after the first 'special' pump was ruled illegal by FIM stewards. They never actually used the FRS pump.
The FRS pump does cause problems with OEM ancillaries clearance (PAS and AC). Although a bigger impeller, it was run slower (smaller pulley). So does it actually flow better? Reputably tuners have reported cavitation erosion on both the standard and FRS pumps.
The often (fashionable alternative) for track is an electric pump with variable speed/on/off controller. However its still usually working through the slightly restrictive pump passage to the block.
