will prob bolt in as a straight swap but will need the 1400 ecu to run it. also some 1600's had maf's and some didn't, dont know about the 1400's.

no point in putting the 1400 i any way mate as the 1600 is under powered enough, the 1400 is a waste of time for ford making it in the first place!!

there must be hundreds of 1600's availible in breakers yards mate. especially near you. if not try asm autos, their actually down near me or theres car transplants in nantwich which is closer to you.

http://www.asm-autos.co.uk
http://www.car-transplants.co.uk

make sure it comes with warrenty too mate. it should do from those two places but best check.

andz81 18-10-2010 12:35 PM

ive been told you dont need the ecu that it will just go straight in?

phil_focus 18-10-2010 02:47 PM

i'm no expert mate but the map in the 1600 ecu will be for the 1600 and therefore will be wrong for the 1400 which could cause problems for the 1400 depending on how different it is.

also, you WILL feel you've ruined the car by sticking the 1400 in as honestly mate it barely moves the car!

here are thousands of the 1600 in use and hundreds in scrap yards and salvage yards. theres plenty of 1600 foci hat get written off every week so just get a 1600 from a salvage yard with warrenty. will be a straighforward swap wth no hassle.

i no your right and thanks for your reply but the only reason was i can get the 1.4 for £200 every one else want £350 to £450 but it looks like ile have to get the extra bit of cash for the 1.6 and put what came out back in thanks again phil focus :-)

phil_focus 18-10-2010 03:44 PM

not a prob mate, even the simplest engine cnversion seems to hit snags and my worst fear is the map not being right for the 1400 and that eventually getting destroyed and you being back where you are now having to fork out for another engine.

good luck, try the two places i posted up above or any other breakers yards close by

hi, is the focus 1.6 s engine with the silver rocker cover the same as the focus 1.6 se and would that go straight in??

phil_focus 18-10-2010 04:05 PM

do you mean the silver top one in the fiesta?

zetec S and zetec SE are completely different engines but the mk1 focus 1.6 is a zetec SE.

personally due to revisions in design i'd get one out of a similar year focus to yours and if yours is a black top zetec se then get one of them.

andz81 21-10-2010 02:22 PM

hello again i can get a 1.6 zetec se engine out of a 2001 fiesta with a black rocker cover would this engine go in it looks the same except the engine mounting an the inlet manifold but would i be able to put the parts of me engine on it thanks for your time
Andy

phil_focus 21-10-2010 07:57 PM

should be able to put your parts on that engine and drop it straight in.

theres another recent thread on here about the fiesta and interchangability between the black top and silver top 1.6 zetec se engines. turns out they are as one person posted up he'd fitted a silvertop engine in after his black top blew up.

anything thats different bolt on wise will be different because its out of a fez so mounts and manifolds you will prob have to use off your car. check the anciliaries are the same too like power steering pump, etc and in the same place. if they are then you can just swap i would have thought.

The silver top zetec-s engine and black top zetec-se engines are the same, I swapped a silver top for a black top a few years back, used the silver tops wiring loom as it had a MAF and the black top didn't.

it's the zetec-E which is different to the S/SE.

thanks fellors for all your info much appreciated  but ive got hold of 1.6 se black top from a 03 with low miles so all is good i did go and see the silver top but it never had a cam shaft pick up sensor on the top and mine did and i couldint be botherd messing about with any loom or ecu's and it turned out to be a 1.4 so it was no good anyways too sloow my new engine will be deliverd on tuesday so every thing will be great thanks again Andy

COCHYN 22-10-2010 08:29 PM

Did it years ago with my original 1.4

The engine fits fine, 1.4 driveshafts and manifold fits without issues and it will run on the 1.4 management without issues.

Easiest conversion ever, but not much more poke :(

andz81 23-10-2010 12:19 AM

hi what about the cam shaft pick up sensor ? will my loom just deal with that or would i have to change anything or mess about with anything? to fit the 1.4 s silver top in my 1.6 se ?

COCHYN 23-10-2010 07:52 AM

Should do, I swapped from black top to black top, a 1.4 SE to 1.6 SE.

andz81 25-10-2010 05:04 PM

hi ther cochyn well ive finally got my hands on a 1.4 se black top so ile be doing the same conversion as you but the other way round 1.4 in a 1.6 i no its slower but i realy dont mind my issue is my one does not have aircon but the one am geting does so wear the aircon compressor is mine has the power steering pump am not a 100% but am sure i can just unbolt the the aircon and replace with the power steering pump am just wondering if you had any issues like this?? thanks

andz81 29-10-2010 07:56 PM

just thought i would update my post i have now fitted the 1.4 s silver top and it work fine straight swap didint need to change anything ecu looms nothing went straight in so if any body wants to no in the future will this work the answear is yes  with out issue's cheers to ever one on here who helped me in my queries

phil_focus 29-10-2010 08:15 PM

well done mate its good to know.

did you swap air con compressor for power steering pump etc??

hows the lack of performance?

COCHYN 29-10-2010 09:18 PM

1.4's not that bad, slap a good 50 shot nitrous kit on it, lasted me ages. Engine still going well years down the line in another car ;)

phil_focus 29-10-2010 09:25 PM

i've driven 1.6, 1.8 and currently have a ligtly modded 2l.

the 1.6 was pathetic for the roads round my way. country roads, bit hilly. my 145-150bhp 2l doesnt struggle at all where as the 1.6 did ALL the time.

i also like having the 2l for ease of overtaking...the less time spent on the wrong side of the road the better and safer the overtake!

andz81 29-10-2010 09:49 PM

ye power steering pump went straight on wear ac comp was came with no ac comp so just bolted on and as for the 1.4 very slow haha but back on the road so very happy but am gonna trade in after xmas and get a st170 so ile have to suffer with the slowness till then lol

phil_focus 29-10-2010 10:13 PM

everyone has to start somewhere mate, i've traded up and quite happy where i am now considering i've just finished uni have no job and just had both my knees operated on...cars had to come off the road for a bit  but at least i've been able to do some jobs on it getting it minty mint mechanically.

sparkyork 28-02-2017 04:40 PM
