Door Lock Replacement - UPDATE ordered one (post 6)

this may be a stupid question but are the door locks 'coded' to the ecu??

reason being my passenger side rear door lock is dead. if tested it and it gets power but just doesnt work so need a replacement and dont know if i can just go to a breakers for one or not?

thanks for any help

No they are not. They do as they are told by the central locking module and that's the end of it.

Your best bet though is actually to buy one from Ford - they are about £70 (and then a fiddly pain in the arse to fit - I cut my hands to ribbons doing mine on a 3 door) but they are notorious for failing so you may very well find yourself paying £25 - £30 for one and getting anywhere between 6 days and 6 years usage out of it. At least a brand spanekrs one you can guarantee a decent amount of life out of it.

cheers mate, thought that was the case.

£70 from ford, cant afford that at the mo :( but i've got a local breakers that test all parts they can and give warrenty so will try them when i get some cash soon.

to be honest i took the whole door apart today with ease (apart from the crap design of window winder handle and the horrible horrible adhesive) so not sure why you had so many problems. maybe the fronts have more crap in the way than the rears.

If you can't afford it then you can't afford but you can test it on the bench to make sure it works at the time of purchase but there's no knowing how long it will work for and then you'll have to buy another one. At least with a new item you can pretty much guarantee you'll get a decent amount of life out of it.

I didn't have problems changing mine but I found it a little bit fiddly and I cut my hands to ribbons on the edges of the openings within the door

very true mate very true. i'll have to see what the price is for a salvaged one first cos if its only £10 or so then its not worth me going new, even if i end up having to replace it again.

thanks for the help mate.

UPDATE.

rang ford today for a quote and they want £123 inc vat for one and theres no way on this plannet i'm paying that so phoned ASM (which is next door to ford) and they've got one still on a car so i can have it tomorrow for £27 inc vat. comes with 90 day guarantee for exchange or refund so i'm getting that.

thanks for your help dave, much apreciated mate
