Default mk1 central locking problems

i posted in the general section, but i thought id try here as well.

the problem is that the central locking has a mind of its own. it has recently been locking the doors when driven along and the only way to unlock it is to stop the car, take the key out of the ignition and operate it remotely because i cant even unlock it manually.

im just worried this happens when we have the kids in the car and we need to get out if something happens(heaven forbid).

please help, 'cause im getting frustrated.

cheers.

My old focus used to do this, a good squirt round all the locks and mechanisms solved it. Think it was a sticky lock not fully opening, thus giving a lock signal back to the ecu, so they all lock!

That is a common problem but it's only usually when you go to unlock/lock and as you say as one of the master locks is sticky one moves and the other is still stuck midway, so when the pulse times out it reverses to where it was originally. I would have thought it would have to be be sent a signal in the first place for the motors to do this, not do so when randomly driving along?

ah cheers fellas, sounds like the best solutions are the easiest/cheapest, but will have to wait till tomorrow now though as it is p*ssing it down outside!!

this definitely sounds like the problem as i have now noticed that the front and rear doors lock differently, not by much, but one of the rear doors locks about half a second after the fronts. all other cars i have had with central locking lock and unlock at the same time.

also the tailgate needs a good few presses on the key fob to open(there is a brand new battery in the key). could this be the same problem?

The tailgate requires two presses on the remote for it to open, it will be the masters that will be causing the problem I.E the front driver or passenger door but it's worth doing them all while your there as well as hinges.
