Focus to Focus RS conversion

I'm sure this must have been done before but the search function is not coming up with any decent answers.

After a cambelt let go on my mkII 1.6 I've been loking at rebuilding the engine to standard spec but it occured to me this might be a good time to try and upgrade it instead.

I'm interested in converting it to an RS engine but have no idea what work and parts would be required. Off the top of my head I figure I'd need motor, gearbox, brakes, ecu, loom, keys but is there anything else required like shafts, hubs etc?

Also, what the story with engine/gearbox mounts and splicing the loom in? Are any custom parts required?

P.s. anyone know where best to pick up these parts from?

Cheers

You want to put a mk1 frs engine into a mk2 focus? Good luck! Will require a lot of custom work I should imagine to get the engine in there as the mk2 used the duratec instead of the mk1's zetec....

BIG.......no HUGE job to do, be easier to stick an ST engine in there but it will be as expensive for the parts

if you was gunna do it i would go for an after market management due to to time invovled in putting the old focus mk1 parts in its easier to go aftermarket the focus rs engine would fit on the 1600 mounts but the gearbox im not sure of and as the rs has a different box might need some mounts making up the main thing you would have to check is the shafts

give someone like pumaspeed a ring to get the info needed but be cheeky and do it yourself
just remember anything is possible with anuf time and money

Sorry guys, should have made myself clearer. Its a phase 2 (facelifted mkI) not a mkII.

Take it that makes more sense now?

ah that makes it easy then! Your best bet would be to buy an accident damaged FRS, then you have everything you need for the conversion :)

That would be my preferred way of doing it but seems to be the most expensive. The only ones I've found are going for crazy money so picking the bit up here and there may be the only affordable way.

My main concern is integrating the loom and if any custom parts are required to make it all fit.

cool will fit easy if you get the dash loom ecus engine box shafts and ancillarys form an rs it will go straight in it sounds like a lot but its been done a few times . good luck

Buying an accident damaged car will take a big hit from your bank account, however in the long run it will probably be cheaper and a lot less hassle to do it this way. And when your finished with it you can sell on any parts you dont need.

I think you will be surprised just how many little niff naff things you will need and that will end up costing the earth to buy seperately!

If you do buy the full car then you can swap over the engine bay and interior loom, and it will all go in with no custom parts, as the bodyshells are the same apart from the wider wings :)

Theres alot of cost involved.
Its exactly what i did, if you want the lot you need to make the car wider for the track or use st170 shafts to keep the original width. Loads fo ways to do ti but by the time youve done it might aswell buy an RS. you basically need a full donor car for everything.
Only reason i didnt was to make what i did.

cheers
