Our daughter bought a car in May last year. 20 weeks after purchase, after no problems with it, the car failed and could not be driven any where. On inspection it had blown the hose off. The garage they had purchased it from were utterly useless, saying it was probably the head gasket. They had installed a scrap yard engine after they had bought it as they said it had a knock on it. Although the previous owners said the problem was a lack of pressure and they had sold it through the auctions.

The engine was originally a G8DA. There car being a 90ps 2008. The replacement is a G8DB and came from a Ford Focus 110ps 2009.

We have had it to many many garages who will not look at it, let alone fix it after hearing of the scenario. And finally were told yesterday it probably isn't the cylinder head and the only way to go is buying a replacement engine and have that installed. Now I am sure everyone can understand this is turning out to be a really expensive car with a hefty car loan still running for the next 2 1/2 years and a new born baby coming home from hospital the day it broke down!

There are a lot of replacement engines out there ranging in price. Should it be a bare engine or should it come with it's turbo, pump and injectors and we start again! The selling garage will not give any information regarding the previous engine even after a solicitors letter. They didn't even change the log book, and the receipt still had the old engine number on it!

So we have to move on and do as best as we can. So 'Bare or Full'? We have a friend who is a mechanic who is fitting it, and we are paying them as my daughter and her partner cannot afford both the engine and the fitting. Because of where we live, we seem to have very few options. And this is so frustrating.
