Default ford Focus 20 TDCI Starting Problems

Hi

This is my first post and im really hoping you can help me.

I have a 56 Focus diesel that has a weird starting issue an it seems to happen more when the weather is cold.

It starts fine but as soon as I put my foot on the accelerator the engine dies, it will do this several time then eventually work, it wont run very well but as soon as it warms up it like nothing is wrong with it.

I also noticed that once it does start if I rev it & let off it makes a funny vvvvvv air noise - a little like a dump valve (hard to describe)

The engine management light came on & pointed to MAF so I had it replaced, didnt solve the prob - weird think is though I took it to the garage again - light was on & rubbish starting, they left it over night so they could start it and the car started fine, ran fine & the engine light was no longer on

Proper stuck

Please help

thanks
Sarah

When was its last major service, sounds like glow plugs, could alsobe an air leak of the ecu pointed to maf and hearing a whooshing sound when you rev it.

Hi

Not sure on last service, ive not owned it long.

It makes the woosh when I let off but does it when I have the starting problem, it does not happen when it starts ok.

Glow plugs have been checked and they are ok

Get it fully serviced and then see what happens if it still does I'd check for air leaks, is it down on power at all??

When you first start it in the morning turn the ignition on and wait a couple of minutes then start.

It sounds like unburned fuel when cold so get the injectors cleaned put some fuel additive in to give it a good clear out.

Like I said before get it serviced.
