Mk3 1.1 HCS CFI Engine Conversion Options

Hi everyone new to the site so gonna get the ball rolling.

Ive got a MK3 1.1 HCS CFI engine. I want a bigger engine in there but would like to discuss some of the potential options.

I dont think il be going down the Zetec route, (seems as if there is too many additional 16v parts required) Im looking for simplicity with moderate tuning potential. I would like a CVH lump but which one would you guys recommend?

I would like to use my standard 5 speed 1.1 box, maybe with 1.4 CVH CFI or 1.6 CVH EFI block? Il be looking at getting it +100bhp so need a good base to start off with. I would like to throw some twin choke webers on it but this seems to be an issue with MOT's.

What parts would be required for a basic CVH conversion ie. engine mounts, loom, throttle bodies etc.

An xr2 cvh is probably the easiest one, at a guess I'd say engine box, driveshafts, manifolds (although if you are going twin carbs then just exhaust manifold), and engine and gearbox mounts, bit of an educated guess really, not done it but read about the conversion (although it was some time ago), sorry I cant be any more help than that.

Yes that is seeming like the most suitable option. It will have to be an XR2i as if a carb is installed the emissions will go through the roof (unless I run it extremely lean for the MOT) :P

So for the XR2i model what components will need modifying or required?

Block
Engine mounts
Loom & ignition setup
Coolant system hosing
Inlet & Exhaust manifold inc. full system
Possibly a swirl pot setup coolant as well as fuel?

I reckon I can use the gearbox I have already as the final drive ratio isn't off the scale compared to the XR2i box. Yes top end may be at a loss but raw acceleration is what i'm after with more usable power on the road.

Someone please confirm what the swap needs so I can price up some parts.

Sorry I'm slow to reply but I reckon all you have listed should all just swap straight over, I cant see how you'd need a swirl pot set up, I don't recall them being used in the conversion. The gearbox will probably work as ford are pretty good when it comes to using the same bell housing pattern, if you can I'd use the xr2i clutch as it would probably handle more power than the 1.1 item.
