suspect head gasket has gone
mornin ppl.
just been out on my rs fitting my vent plates and noticed the water was low. so i whipped the header tank lid off and it had some mayo on it. checked the oil and that was fine. the head gasket has gone on this car before so could it be that it has residue still in the system?

unlikely to be from before, if it was you should of noticed almost straight after.
As mentioned above have you checked that?
I'd get the compression tester out and do a quick check aswell, can tell a lot from one of those. Better finding its gone sooner than later, as with all these things.

its using a little water but that could be a leak as the hoses aren't brilliant there doesn't appear to be oil in the water just mayo and the oil is absolutely fine. it only gets hot when standing but no more than usual. oil pressure is good and the water is pressurising so i dont know.
