Looking for a new cam

Hey all..

Since i need to replace my old cam and followers im looking for a new set to put in. But i dont know much about cams. What should i go for and why??. I could go for a standard but thats about £200 in danish crowns.. so i thought i might as well spend up to £100 more and get a better cam. Then if i want more power later on i dont need to fit a new cam again.. Hope you understand :DD:

Please help me find a new cam set.. pricerange = £200-£300...

everything except the vernier pully that you will need

RonRon 06-08-2005 02:57 PM

what does vernier mean??

NUTS RuS 06-08-2005 04:00 PM

Vernier pully is the wheel that the cam is connected to (or the bit the cam belt goes round) :top:

watch out for a post in the next couple of days about my experiances with a piper 285T cam kit , not good :wall:

want to contact them first though

IMO if i were to get a performance cam i would get a quality kit made up from various sources so you get the best kit you can :top:

RonRon 06-08-2005 04:40 PM

NUTS RuS, ok i just thought that it was called a cam pulley :D

swerv, what is wrong with the piper 285t2??? :?

swerv 06-08-2005 07:43 PM

nothing in general , usually very good but you get what you pay for, keep that in mind when buying a cheap cam kit :top:

AKRS1 06-08-2005 09:38 PM

ive had 2 piper kits in 1 year and both have knackered in 10k

RonRon 07-08-2005 01:57 AM

AKRS1, god damn u must drive ur car hard..

but i dont race much anyway.. so i dont have the same high demands like some of you over there.. :D and from what i heard piper t2 is the best i can get for this kind of money..

swerv 07-08-2005 05:07 PM

the T2 is a way way over rated kit, one which ruined the car in many ways.

i bought a 285T and properly timed up with the vernier was so nice to drive.

what spec car are you running?

what you could do is buy the just the cam from piper and buy the lifters/springs from elsewhere as trust me you want the stuff thats in the kit these days

and from what i heard piper t2 is the best i can get for this kind of money..
where did you here this from :?

what do you mean by ruined the car??? :?

I bought my 1989 series 2 ERST febuary last year. The car is straight standard except from the turbo is running @ 0,7 bar (dont know what that is in PSI). I dont intend to tweak the engine to more than 170-180 bhp because i want my car to be stabile and have it starting every morning u know.

I got a couple of friends that helps me with the car. They recommended the Piper 285T2 for me. I can't afford to pay more than approx. £300 for both cam kit and adjustable cam pully. But if i can't find anything good for that price i will just go for a standard cam which is about £200 in danish crowns..

Just got a mail from Simon at Woodford.. They CAN deliver to me in Denmark   :top:
