I didnt missunderstand you - it cuts in (turns the fan on) at 86deg. It will be stamped on the side with this figure. As it cools the engine, it cuts out again at about 82 degrees. A combination of the 2 parts will try to keep the engine between 82 and 86 degrees.
If you got connections at Ford, the stats cost about 4 quid. And for about 20p you can get a new fibre washer for your new switch - 6005731.
