RS Turbo Series 1 misfiring
Hi everyone,
Wonder if anyone can help.
I have owned RST S1 for a very long time and have had in dry storage for round 15 yrs.
Last year I decided to get MOT done, realised thefuel had evaporated, added a gallon of fuel, allowed engine to run on a few occasions, took it for an test, and whilst driving back going at an incline the car started to run rough and spluttered and stopped. it would not start.
thinking ran out of (fuel gauge not working) put Gallon of fuel, but still could not get to start.called the RAC, who said most likely fuel pump fault.
Got it the car recovered to a garage, whom installed a new pump, whilst in the garage got them to replace fuel filter, and fit a new car belt, dust cap, rotor leads and plugs.
As as they did not have a timing light they could not do timing drove the car back home, but ran very very rough and stalled many times,. Called a local mechanic who did the timing but stil car would still run rough and kept in stalling especially when accelerated pressed.
Replaced the crankcase filter, changed plugs again and dust cap, but no succes. Did a compression test, 3 were at 150, whilst cyl 2 was at 90. Replaced cyl injector. Air plate in metering unit seems to move freely when pressed down by hand.
Car taken to garage, head removed, and fully refurbished, pistons and bores good, exhaust valve burnt on cyl 2. Everything assembled back together with new gaskets. I still have the same problem.
The garage has taken the fuel line from tank to accumulator off and put the fuel line direct to pump, but still same problem of backfire misfire. Car will start if left to idle for few minutes, car will stall. Also if car is started and throttle pressed car will backfire/misfire and stall.
Any help would be really appreciated. Are there any specialist in West Yorkshire area.
