Default ECU clarification needed please

Hi guys, I'm after some clarification, I have recently acquired a Mk4 Escort van which has had an EFI XR3i CVH engine installed...basically everything from an XR3i was removed and installed into the van...what I need or want to know is what type of ECU would this have? I'm reading reports of OFAC and OFAB, however, thinking its NA, I thought it would be OFAC, but then I hear of people converting their XR3i's to OFAC...so I'm a bit miffed what actually came on these cars...

Thanks for any help guys...im sure its an obvious answer but I'd like to be sure...as I know I will ultimately be throwing lots of turbo parts at it to liven it up at some point, but wondered if its going to be as simple as I think (rods, pistons, inlet manifold, exhaust manifold, turbo, actuator, pipe work, etc) or is the ECU side going to cause complications

Cheers!

After some digging around, I may actually have a 1afa ecu? If this is the case, is a OFAC ecu a simple swap out and the OFAB requiring some pin swaps?

Hopefully I'm doing down the right track

There used to be a website called RS bible that used to show the pin changes, dunno if it is still on the web.

Yeah man I seen that...its still live and working....from all the various sites I have seen, it looks like I have the 1AFA ECU from factory...if I want small amount of boost, I can simply add an OFAC ECU as a plug and play unit, but will be limited on boost...if I want some more power/boost, then I would need to swap to either OFAB or aftermarket ECU!

Atleast I know what my options are, but I'm sure for now the XR3i engine will do me fine while my ZT is being put into my Orion!

If it's a full XR3i EFi conversion you "should" have a 1AFA. You won't have OFAB or OFAC if it's NA, it would run like a bag of crap.

For a quick fix turbo conversion you want a Fiesta RS Turbo engine and an OFAC ECU. Forget throwing rods and pistons at the XR3i engine. This is plug and play with the addition of a MAP sensor wire. Using OFAC, the engine can be modified to be good for up to 195BHP. I pretty much run this at 10PSi and mine makes 162BHP.

Have a good look at my sticky at the top of this room, it goes in to great detail on this conversion.

Appreciate that Lee! And many thanks for your contribution!

I definitely think this is on the cards now at some point on the Orion gets its temp ZT conversion done...ECU should turn up today so that can finally come off the road for the conversion!

Hopefully put it together with parts I have laying around to!

A OFAM from Boost Monkeys would be my advice, plug and play and fully mapable with lots of extra features too.
