All motorcraft (original) shocks ive had were black. Admittedly not an S1 but all mk3 (non RS) and mk4 ive dealt with, I'd be suprised if it was different - but happy to be educated

Default Satin black.....

Satin black, per EAN491, V85 AB18K076 BA.

I changed my front shock absorbers when just out of guarantee, as one had developed a rattle. I kept the other one......

Default Rear shock...

Actually, now I remember it is, of course, a rear shock absorber I replaced.

I'm replacing the disk pads at the moment and confirm the original fronts are the same colour and satin (under all the waxoyl...).

Default shock absorber colour(s).

Perhaps other cars had other colours. My throttle cable sleeve isn't faded and is original and a paler than some. The shocks are original or 2 genuine Fords from a couple of years later. All 6 are satin black.
I am sure that there was some variation, I just know what was on mine......
