I trimmed mine down the left side and managed to get it in with 1 bolt and some silicone along the left edge, It was a tight fit, the upper cover needed a bit of a trim to clear where the engine mount attaches to.

Are you using the standard escort engine mount on the inner wing with a BC or IB5 gearbox? as I don't think you will get that in. I will have a look for the one I cut when Im in my garage in the next day or so and get you a picture.

Just seen you other thread and commented that the ST heads are not the best for turbo use and are prone to warping, I black top head would be a much easier and more reliable choice, plenty about from Mondeo to Focus'

It's funny you should say up there because it was Simon @ Sitech Racing that advised me not to use them because they warp, this was a few years ago now though so maybe his opinion/experience has changed?

I'm guessing heat but as I mentioned in your other thread I've not actually tried one myself, I always use black top heads as these do over 400bhp and is more than enough for most people.

How do they drive with fixed cam timing, I imagine the turbo makes up for a lot of what's otherwise suboptimal VE?

Tbh I'm unsure how it will drive with the VVT delete there was one local to me for a year or so that ran 250 ish at the wheels had no issues only reason that the vvt isn't used is the ecu isn't capable of running it, did Simon not run a ST170 head on his S2 granted that engine had a lot of work done can't remember how that engine finished up guy on here has it can't remember his user name?

Ah ok I thought you might have perhaps driven one.
I'm not sure what he did, I just messaged him a few years ago now about using one and he advised me not to because of warping problems so I've never experimented further and just go the black top route.

I think the problem with the heads is due to less material around the inlet valves.

This shouldn't be a problem at 250bhp.

I would think getting the cams set up will be harder.

That due to head casting or the inlet valves being bigger, thought it wold have cracked rather than warp if it was thin.

Cams may be dificult to set up i have had a good look around and had a play about with the inlet timing and set it to what i think is going to be good for the duration and lift again time will tell.

Default St170 turbo

have you finished this build yet?

how did you get on with the timing? I'm currently doing a conversion on mine at the min,

still in 2 minds as to what head to use? Stick with the st or go blacktop

are you happy with the st or do you have any regrets with it? Any problems with warping/cracking?
