escort rs turbo with efi more power

hi all converted my car escort turbo to efi about a year ago now only gets used in the summer what is the best way to get some more power out of it as seems very slow. Dont wanna spend to much something around the 600 mark was thinking beige injectors cam and a remap whats peoples thought on this its bog standard at the mo thanks ben

cooksters 29-06-2015 02:24 PM

also forgot to say its running the t3 turbo off my old mfi engine

blackbeautyzetec 29-06-2015 03:06 PM

What's it running now?

matthart 29-06-2015 03:24 PM

Better injectors - the beiges are dated now
aftermarket management - you will struggle to find someone who will map OFAC/OFAB
Intercooler upgrade
and ultimately more boost

fabian l-a 29-06-2015 03:27 PM

As above ^ unfortunately 600 doesnt buy much in the way of upgrades :( just spent that much on a front brake setup for mine :D

For the money beiges arent much good, unless your keeping the power below 170bhp. Delphi 440's are my next buy as my beiges are maxed out!

Better management is the key.

cooksters 29-06-2015 05:49 PM

Thanks guys I might go to motor sport development cause for 600 they can get it up to 180 which I would be happy with. Its probably running 110 at the moment I think they were like 125 standard and it's probably lost a bit over the years. Starting to think should of never gone efi thought it was the way to go but seems not

blackbeautyzetec 29-06-2015 06:05 PM

All you need is a beige set of injectors. £75 recon. A chip. Can get that reprogrammed for £60 to spec. And a set up for £150 ish ....done. should see around 190bhp

cooksters 29-06-2015 06:15 PM

I'm in the reading area do ya no of anyone round there that can do a setup heard of some really good ones but there miles away thanks for replys

moesin2005 29-06-2015 06:43 PM

why do people slag of old efi it must be better than old mfi

blackbeautyzetec 29-06-2015 07:19 PM

Devil developments in Hastings is your best bet. That's where I'm going to get mine set up.

I guess there is nothing really wrong with it, but it is to do with the people who have fiddled with it before, and well before that. The kit and wiring is now 20 years old too meaning most of them will not exactly be trouble free.

After having 'poor' LPG ECUs setups run perfectly (I used to mess around with them years ago) and having seen a number of 'top end' LPG ECUs installed horrifically I'd have to agree with the above. In some cases I would have been better off starting off all over again for the hassle I kept on going through (botched looms, tired injectors and other parts etc.). I have seen similar things on car ECUs as well far too many a time.

I agree with something Karl pointed out in another thread: People throw in an old untested ECU and loom and expect them to work because they're newer than the MFi they're replacing. When they don't, EEC-IV (as in OFAB or OFAC; I guess that's what you were referring to by EFi) gets a bad rep.

If you're methodical and spend time on diagnostics and install, EEC-IV is a good upgrade to MFi. But it takes days to buzz out all of the cables and check the connectors so people skip that step and go straight to the last step: starting the car.

Had my look done by a friend of mind who is a auto electrian even has a plug on it so I can disconnect the ecu and take it out it defo runs better than mfi.im gonna speak to motor sport developments heard good things about them I think different injectors actuator cam and a chip should see nearly 190

Only just.... Much like MFI if it's all in good order then it's fine but if it isn't it can be just as troublesome, the earliest EFI is still 25 years old remember.

MSD is a great choice, I would go injectors (assuming you are running blues?), intercooler and suitable chip, you may also need a clutch.
Changing cam is not needed until you want over say 240bhp and it's a big risk these days as to whether you get one that will last and not fall to bits in under 1000 miles.

cooksters 30-06-2015 07:12 AM

Yea it's running blues at the moment is it worth taking it there or just getting the parts delivered and fitting them myself but will then need a set up in guessing.i work on cars everyday so no problem with fitting anything glad ya said about the cam will leave that then

Karl @ FPT 30-06-2015 08:28 PM

I would not drive it there with bigger injectors in no, if it runs it will be really rich.
MSD probably do an off the shelf chip, so you may not even need to take it there if you're happy everything else on the car is correct.

cooksters 30-06-2015 08:32 PM

Na I wouldn't do that car runs sweet as it is have not done any mods bar the efi conversion and yea your right I have looked they do a off the shelf chip.comes with the chip and different waste gate so will probably jump on that for time being thanks

Karl @ FPT 30-06-2015 08:44 PM

No worries mate, one thing worth mentioning too, if your FPR has had the anti tamper seal removed then (if you can) check your fuel pressure is correct for the MSD chip (probably 3 bar) if you have no way of checking then might be worth sourcing another one just to be sure.

beaver rs 88 30-06-2015 09:15 PM

Hi mate I recently had a setup and custom chip from MSD and I can honestly say I wouldn't take it anywhere else now. I have converted to ofac efi with a standard 3bar fuel pressure regulator and a set of beige injectors uprated clutch. My car has a piper t285 t2 cam and vernier fitted but I thing this is what is making it abit laggy. Grs frontmount cooler and my car made 193bhp on what I think is a standard turbo but I really don't know 100% set at 12psi. The guys at msd are spot on and it was the best £500 I've spent on the car.

Karl @ FPT 30-06-2015 09:19 PM

Most likely a .48/55 to make that power at that boost, stock T3 would see around 150-160bhp.

What stage would that be karl? It seems to be really laggy then comes on boost really strong

That sounds correct mate yes and as above.

marky_g 03-07-2015 03:56 AM

I've done the same recently and personally I didn't want to throw any money at an old ecu that had limited options so I went with the boostmonkey ECU and had Karl fit it,

I used Astra VXR injectors -£75
Boost monkey OFAM ecu -£400
MSD updated in tank pump (as my car was xr3i efi) -£75

Then came the problems as everyone says the looms are old and problematic Karl had fit the ecu and pump rewire the pump Rewire and replace the CPS and a few other bits this was about so diagnostics alone were £250 but I went to him As a non runner

And it still needs mapping again another £250ish

But ultimately it's a new ecu that can run any sensor not old expensive rocking horse shit ford stuff and has a shit ton or features you don't get with OFAC/OFAB

If I did it again I think I'd be inclined to go with the GEN 8 and as it comes with a new loom, so takes the old ford stuff out of the equation

What basic mods do you have at the moment?
Inter cooler?
-31?
Bleed valve?
