Default RS Turbo brake conversion

Im looking at putting a bigger brake setup on my Series 2 and a friend mentioned to me the other day that a cheaper alternative to going for a full on disk and bell option is to use the Focus ST170 300mm disk with Mondeo MK3 callipers????

do these bolt straight on or is there someone on here that makes spacer brackets to do so ?

Did mine with ST170 discs and callipers, was about 8 years ago now though. As far as I remember it was bolt on, and is a better conversion than the more common Cosworth set up

12mm spacers needed to centre the caliper and the bolt holes need opening up to take the M12 bolts.

I bought 2 mk3 mondeo calipers for 15.99 with 5 quid postage each.I got the calipers the carriers the carrier bolts and the pads were like new so in my eyes it was a bit of a bargain.

I also got a pair of ST170 front brake discs for £40.01.

Right here goes.I attacked the calipers with the grinder.

There are 4 ridges 2 in the middle of the caliper and 1 at each end which I grinded down.

There was also 2 parts of the caliper carriers at the ends that were sticking out so I thought I would shave these off too.

I gave them a coat of primer to make them look a bit better.I will paint them black soon.

They are defo a bigger disc.

I trial fitted them to the car then put the wheel back on to see if I needed to take any more off the calipers.

I found that I needed to take a bit more of the caliper carriers.

I wasn't happy with the bolts cause they looked really close to the disc when the bolts were in and fastened tight.I fitted some washers to space them out a bit.

I found I needed to take a bit more of the calipers cause they were still catching slightly.

Happy with that.

.

Anyone want a bit of brake caliper.

Standard disc/caliper.

Mk3 mondeo/ST170 brakes.

I would say it took me about an hour and a half to trim the calipers down drill the hubs for the bigger bolts and fit the parts.I havent properly tested them yet cause im still bedding the brakes in.

So all in all a cheap brake conversion.I did heat the mondy brake caliper bleed nipples up the day before so that they would come loose cause I thought if I do this conversion and cant bleed the brakes I would of been fooked.

You just need a spacer 12mm thick. A proper one is better but washers will do.

When I googled that it's a hex head set screw that right? Not a lot of surface area on the screw head?

That's the one. 40mm length should be about right. That's what I've used on mine before and what I've just ordered or the suspension and new brakes

Surely you use the Mondeo Mk 3 brake pads to suit the caliper?
