Does the light work when you key on? Disconnect the blue wire and earth it with the key on, tests the warning wire circuit/bulb etc.

Check the wiring between the starter motor and the alternator, they can corrode.

If wiring ok, alternator is faulty.

You've got your meter on the right setting 20v dc.

Check the wiring as above, also check the drive belt tension.

My battery light comes on faintly with headlights... Even tho batt voltage is at 13+ and alternator is putting out nearly 14v?
Also my rev counter rises when theres alot of electrical load, its quite funny...

Any ideas?

Could it be draining through a connection somewhere? Like through earth? Very dangerous but quite possible.

Measure the output from the alternator directly, as said, from what you have said, you more than likely have a bad connection after this point.

You pretty much answered your own question (although you don't mention a precise figure?) there is quite a power difference between the two, therefore one side of the warning light has greater power than the electrical supply, which supplies the other side of the bulb.

This is usually caused by old wiring which has resistance etc, thus increasing the load means even less power avaliable.

With the lights on, measure the power from say, the cigarette lighter, what is the figure, I suspect a discrepancy between that vs power @ the battery?

The warning setup is very basic to start off with and dosen't really tell you anything.

As already said the voltage is too low at the alternator, should be 13.5v-14v+

Yeah new wiring needed Rog, that ebay link is not the correct wiring, that's the starter to batter wiring, you need new alternator wiring, easy enough to make up your self with fresh wire and connectors mate.

Best way.
Phone local motor factors ask them where the nearest place is you can get a cable made up
Wip it off the car go in and they'll make you one in two minutes for under a tenner.
You can always up yhe cable a gauge too.
