Default Cooling system gurgle

Ok so car runs fine , no smoke steam or leaks etc . Doesn't over heat , temp gauge sits just below half when driving and when stationary for 5 to 10 mins it will creap to 3/4 up the gauge and the fan cuts in as it should .

But after a run and is switched off I'm getting a glugging sound like air bubbles moving round the system . Why would it do this when it runs perfectly fine and doesn't overheat

Btw is running 82 stat , airtec ally rad , MSD switch , bailey swirl pot and header tank

Mind doesn't, and the needle only hits maximum very sightly over half way till the fan cuts in.

Cool it down good before shutting off. Try to get good airflow. Its part of the car, but try to minimise it

ally rads are not the best at cooling compared to the originals to be honest, they aint so bad when new but dont age well, but having said that it wouldnt worry me on an rs turbo to hear gurgling, are your fans in front of or behind the rad. the best setup really is to have the fans on the engine side pulling air through the rad rather than on the bumper side trying to push it through

Sure early AS rads and coolers came with front fans ...but sure they re designed them to have fans at rear .....

Am running the early type ...AS twin mount cooler with fans at front, alloy rad ,re worked mondy thermostat ,turbo cooler...on idle u still have to keep checks on gauge ,sits at normal but gets there very fast and always gives me the para worries also after seconds of turning it on its at that temp ..done countless starters in and that's with dp wrapped like a fkr

Car is in resto stages just now but had been thinking of changing to later type stuff....also anybody using that waterless cooling stuff that edd china used on wd if so any differences using that

I've been meaning to look at this on mine. I'm running early Airtec FMIC with fans at the front , Airtec Alloy rad, 82 degree thermostat, 92 degree fan switch and mine gurgles. No leaks, no smoke, no steam, temp gauge sits at half.

The engine never did it when it was in my tin top, but it was in mild tune then with MFi.

Sounds like it's part and parcel of running a tuned RST engine.

Just to update, I fitted a brand new header tank cap, a few quid from ebay and my problem has gone away. Maybe the pressure relief was broken on my old one.
