Huuumongusss crack in the block. Why must it always be 1 step forward 2 steps back :wall::wall::wall: Anyone got a bottom end lying around?:cry: |
That does look big, had it overheated?
im suprised it didnt trace to the coreplug
is it a 1600 cvh block??
Ahh gutted for you mate, that's not cool
theres somebody that sells 1800 zvh bottom ends near us on ebay, about 350 quid.
my mate bought one for his series 2 n just bolted it all together. sounds sweet as a nut mate, maybe worth gettin one? |
i've a block efi ready
I had mine go from the front, through both front core plugs and too the back of the block, hard luck fella :(
That happend to me m8 a month after buying mine was gutted just spent £3000 buying the car then clutch went then crack in the block I no how u feel
Thanks for the replies guys.. Yes it is a 1600 cvh block. Bored out 0.5mm.. Feel a bit better knowing I'm not the only person who this has happened too
Would the zvh bottom end be a straight swap? Also what is a zvh bottom end like compared to cvh bottom end power delivery wise? I been thinking to strip my current block as it's got 0.5mm overbore with bigger pistons and put all the internals in a bare cvh block that I could pickup and get it machined. .. Not sure what make the pistons are, will need someone to identify them for me Ideas anyone? |
Or dear lol.
i dont know what there like mate, ive got a 2.1 zvh bottom end ready, just sourcing bits n bobs for conversion. im prettysure 250 bhp is quite easily acieved using 1.8 zvh. obviously depending on ur spec etc.
other people on here alrwady gave done this so they will know better, but yeah my mate just bolted it straight on and it sounds sweeter than my 1.6 cvh :-) |
i bought a engine, had cps hole machined. driven it 3 times and found a thin crack across the front
do you want to borrow some polyfiller? hard luck pal.
Let me know ifr your interested in a efi turbo block. Postage might not be cheap though.
All too common these days, CVH blocks are old and very brittle after years of heat and fatigue, this is why Karl Norris will no longer build big power CVH's using original blocks.
ZT ftw, my st170 donkey is home and on the engine stand awaiting strip down
i think ive got a 1.6 turbo bottom end with a 0.5 overbore will try and find it tomorrow

Thanks for the replys guys. So the update is.. Dubs44 supplied me with a bare engine block for free! Just had to pick it up from him which was about 30mins from my house, so thank you for that mate :top: .. Nice to know that there are still some helpful people about on passionford, and thanks to people who took the time to pm me.
Going to get the block honed etc soon, gotta start stripping the rs tommorrow. Now I gotta start shopping again for head gasket set, oil, coolant, and all the rest of the parts I need  Seeing as the engine is coming out, gonna take the gearbox out and give that a fresh lick of paint along with the new block. Also considering respraying the car over the course of the winter so its ready for summer but I'll see how it goes. Why do bastard Fords make you keep coming back for more :cry::cry: |
You wanna use a xr2i block really. Or a 1.6 out of as later mk6 escort as poss. Being non turbo will have had less heat stress
when people say 'zvh block' am i right in thinking thats just a zetec bottom end?
I have a bored out to 0.5 cvh EFI block here fella, make me a sensible offer and its yours, as its just sat in my way.

yup with some tinkering for a cheap fix i'd chuck in a 1.8 zetec big end but ive broken a few 16v 2is and they had bent rods so you need to trust your seller if building a zvh my note would be be careful when you thread you water pump holes and a good zetec big end make it drive really nicely too |
