For the money no they are not worth it... They are essentially just a stock IB5 gearbox (mk5/6 escort, Ka, Focus, etc...) but without the extra case webbing (reduces flex under high torque) fitted with a Quaife LSD and if you pay top dollar a shot peened gear set... Unfortunately this does not stop the shafts snapping
For the same money you can buy 100 low milage IB5 box's and drop your RST LSD

I found mine very worth it indeed. The current one lasted very very well. Mine is the lesser box so has the standard LSD that's pumped up a bit. Before this box I'd gone through 12 others.

In terms of B5/IB5's they are without doubt the best gearbox you can buy for an RS Turbo. We only recommend CTS for IB5 boxes, and they are worth every penny!

However fundamentally the IB5 is'nt all that strong, so you have to put things in perspective. Ideally we say they are great up to 250bhp, over that Im affraid its a bit of a lottery, some last at 300bhp, some dont. That in no way reflects a fault on CTS's behalf, simply that the box is'nt really strong enough for 300bhp no matter how you modify it!

So the answer is, if you're below 250bhp its a fantastic box.

Were no good on my s2 which broke a stage 2 box 3 times, got fed up in the end and was just putting recon ib5 boxes in at £80 a go. If you have a big power s2 save your money up for a frs box conversion, then forget about it. Are you zvh or zetec?

£1500 and they don't outlast a stock IB5 which can be picked up for £30 with 36k miles on (picked up a few around this price and milage) it's just not worth it IMO, if you want the Quaife LSD then buy one for £600 and drop it in, still less than half price

Bigger bearings, stronger casing (more webbing), self centering neutral, but no LSD.

IMO there a great gearbox I have the stage 2+ and running 210bhp - 230torque and it loves it!!! Have the BnM shifter also, bang through the gears like no tomorrow, grips in second and pulls like a bastard.

Surely gearboxes are rated in torque and not power?

I've always thought this as well. Surely a maximum torque rating would make more sense.

I dont think they are 'rated' to anything as such? But yes torque is what will kill them.

Yes it fits, you need to grind a fraction (maybe 1mm) off the outside for the IB5 crown wheel to fit.

Yeah you always hear people saying things like "good for 250bhp" etc when as you said its the torque that will kill them.
