Default Rs turbo head the same as any other 1.6 cvh head?

Have a cvh head here not sure what it came off other than I know it's a 1.6 cvh! Are they the same as Rs turbo head? Or is the turbo head different in any way?

Not really sure! Just bought it and not sure what model it came off. How do I tell if it's lean burn or not?

I think the heads are interchangeable but rs turbo valves are different and obviously the cam. Then again does the efi head have different shaped inlet ports??

IIRC MFi RS Turbo heads are unique due to the composition of the valves. But everything else is shared with non turbo MFi heads.

All 1.6 EFi heads are the same wether it be an XR3i, XR2i, FRST, 1.6i etc.

I thought it was the pistons that differed in the Turbo'd vresions! the only difference otherwise is the inlet ports which are different on the fiesta RST to the escort RST due to the inlet manifolds being different! - I think!

S1 turbos had sodium filled valves, maybe S2s aswell?
EFi heads are all the same i believe.

I think what you say about the valves is correct, sodium filled exhaust valves for S1 and not for S2.

However, as for the head itself at a total guess I think they may be the same, provided it's another MFI one?

As Rick says any injection head will be fine, Phil is talking about heads with certain casting numbers having more meat and this is true, NMS have a nice collection of them for their serious CVH builds as they can be ported larger and fit very big valves.
S1 heads had sodium filled exhuast valves and S2's didnt.

They are lean burn heads, they were on carb'd CVH's, flow poorly and require lots of work to make them useable.

Lean burn engines, were designed to burn "Lean" as the name suggests, this was done for economy and emissions reasons etc.

If they were designed to run "lean" maybe they should've fitted them to rs turbos as some 20 odd years later most of the are running lean lol, hence the rep for smokey old cvh's burning out their rings etc...

I have a mfi turbo head, and Im thinking of building a head for my carbed escort.
So instead of taking my carbed one of the road whilst the head is built, just using the turbo head chaging the cam for a n/a one

Any problems with doing this???

Id quite like to know because my engine has what i think is an MFi head, it was using the dizzy, and i want to run full EFi with a coilpack. But the MFi has been ported/polished.

You still can, what inlet manifold have you got fitted?

An adaptor plate will allow fitment or modify a mfi inlet

I've just built an engine from about 3 that were lying around , we've ended up with rs turbo block , head . 1.6i crank , pistons , and camshaft . all new gaskets ,bearings etc etc (as new) . we've put 200 miles on it now and it has a slight misfire under load cut a long story short the camshaft wasn't the best . I've now compared all the cams I've got and not one of them seems to be the same ?? I'm guessing rs turbo head so i need an rs turbo cam ? it also on a carb ?

All injection cam's are the same... But if you are using second hand ones then you need their matching lifters and for them to have been kept in the same order they came out of the head.

i have a similar crosshatch head ,has the BRA code and 097832 .can't see from my pics the 10 .date code is .-1-85 it was fully ported big valve head from vulcan engineering, so not sure if that was an rs1600i head originally or not.supposed to be the best heads as you can go larger on valves.not sure how true that is but from a rough measurement it looks like 43mm/38mm valves.

Hi thanks for replying and I think they could go 45mm valves but still unknown if it is an rs1600i head I always thought that those type of heads from 85 would be as I know that'swhen rs1600i were around at that time
