Default Tubular manifolds

Hey, was wondering what is (or if theres) any great benefits between a basic tubular manifold and the type that locates the turbo over the gearbox?
Any thoughts appreciated!

AFAIK it just frees a bit of space up front for larger rad/intercooler.

run cooler, maybe abit more responsive depending on the design

just like to add, standard manny's have been proven upto around the 400hp mark, with some porting

also if you use the exhaust manny which goes over the gearbox it will save your alternator LOL something which i had fried a month or so back but thats now been sorted

it would also be a good idea to remove the brake servo as you will find the turbo sitting close to the servo(not good)

I don't know huge amounts about optimum manifold design etc but generally an over the box type manifold will allow the car to run cooler moving the turbo away from the rad and giving more room at the front of the bay.
However, as a trade off you get higher Exhaust Gas Temps IIRC as the gas spends longer in the headers and will also loose low down torque and responce but gain more torque towards to top of the rev range. As with everything it will be a trade off and compromise.

Crazycage off here did it mate. They are based on a Nissan SR20DET manifold with a CVH head flange and T3 turbo flange welded on.

haha Muz.....the joys of owning RST's

there are ups and downs of both standard and tubular, more turbo lag could be a problem with the over the box type manny, dependant on turbo spec etc...

like i said id be quite worried of the standard brake servo

Well longer headers will help shift peak power up the rev range (longer inlet also needed to make the most of it)

Heat will be taken away from rad and IC as these are problems in rs turbos thats a good thing

You may lose thermal efficiency and will take longer to fill the longer mani before it spools the turbo (talking fractions here) so if you heat wrapped the manifold to keep the temperature up, that will help the turbo to spool up quicker again. (remember hot gasses expand more than cool ones, hot gass= more pressure = faster turbo spool up)

Or just move the rad and cooler forward. I have looooooooads of room between the turbo and rad and running a T34.

for me the ava manifolds are just awesome

they seem to do exactly what they intended them to do

both of mine work very well

ava certainly knew what they were doing when they made them

only thing i have done is ceramic coat them inside and out

If you're using a cossie turbo, you could also pulse seperate the manifold for even quicker spool up
