Because the Mk4 Escort is perfect for this use.
The Mk3 shell was designed with race and handling in mind. Hence all the great adjustable bits that are on RS16i and S1 ERST's. I dont think there is a better handling RS from the factory.. Untill we bring 25year younger cars into the conversation like the FRS. Or silly overpriced cars like gt40 or rs200

Using:-
S1/16i rollbar
Adjustable TCA's
Coilovers
Top mounts
6link rear end

You have a super handling car that is very hard to match with any other model of RS. Even if you had a cosworth they dont come with the adjustable bits the S1/16i came with. Spend alot more on the cosworth than you would need to compared to a mk3/4 and it might handle similar although will still be a lot more in weight and still not handle as well.

So i hope you didnt take it the wrong way.

Jano
its fine mate, dont worry, i just simply took it the wrong way. this whole thing has been a bit of a kick in the balls, worked my arse off to get it built up, and then keep having the issues over and over with these coilovers, just to get it sitting low. think im finally going to cut my losses and go back to konis and lowering springs. when i loaded it on to the trailer this weekend, i couldnt even get the wheel tie down straps between the back of the wheel and the coilover unit!

im thiking that maybe coilovers really are more for a serious track car, not a road car show pony. time for somebody else to put the coilovers to use

Hi Jano, is 25 mm droop enough at the rear end off my S2 running gaz coilovers, with the sensible ride height I want I only have 25mm droop

205/45/17 tyres
Bigger rear discs being a 28mm x 300 IIRC bell and rota set up orginally for the front of a car with Brembos

and I only had to shave my rear arches to stop them catching.

One thing I don't like is the origonal top hats and narrow strut of the ERST so am looking at putting bigger front turrets in the rear with Compbrake solid top mounts, but this probably won't solve your problem.
Hi Muz, I'm wanting same ride height as yours as my wheels would catch if not, have gaz coilovers and shaved arches away, not worried about it rubbing, I'm more worried about how much droop I have, with mine same height as yours I only have 25mm droop, what have your got? A few pumps off the jack and my wheels are lifting. I know coilovers have less droop but is 25mm OK? Don't want wheels lifting off over bumps
