how many d reg s2 are there left ?

just wondering because i own one and heard they are getting pretty rare nowdays :king:

Twins 28-02-2011 05:41 PM

The d reg ones were prone to rust more due to a dodgy batch of metal ,mate had one never seen one as bad ,ps did you get my pm

Oranoco 28-02-2011 05:41 PM

C and D plate Mk4's are rare as Ford built them out of shockingly poor steel so most have fallen foul of tin worm

matthewsimone 28-02-2011 07:12 PM

Mines a D plater

That is sweet for a d Reg

milesy23rst 28-02-2011 07:28 PM

Most have rotted badly due to crap metal but there are exceptions the one above pictured being one very mint example

matthewsimone 28-02-2011 07:37 PM

Cheers for kind comments, I go on the rsoc forums quite often but thought id come have a nosey round here for a change ;-) Name's Matt from just outside chester, owned the S2 for nearly 2 years, had a reasonable S1 a few years before that, I also own a concourse 17k miles grey xr2i. the S2 is virtually factory standard with 2 previous owners and 52k miles on the clock, engine is preety standard apart from ecu chip, ss exhaust, panel filter, and -31 actuator, was put on rollers in 2004 by previous owner making just over 170bhp at about 1 bar boost and also put on rollers last year by myself making 146 bhp @ the wheels also running about 12-14 psi boost etc, theres my intro and hope to speak to a few more of you soon

I had a C reg MK4 XR3i back in 1997 and it was rotten as fuck! lol
Some nice looking D plates in this thread, I too wonder if there are any MK4's on a C reg?

cj_rst 01-03-2011 11:45 AM

Mine's a D plate, it's black and really solid but did spend the last 9 years in a garage with the previous owner. I've got it garaged too but took it out in the rain the other day and felt guilty!

chigwellboy 13-04-2011 08:50 AM

Got pics of two S2's on (gen) C plates. The mk4 XR3i press car was also on a C plate.

As for numbers left. I contacted DVLA regarding Series 1's and they gave me the following info - which will include the mk3 and mk4 D plates.

This is the total number left that are taxed or SORN as of 22nd Feb 2010 are
September - 17
October - 19
November - 20
December - 10

Removing the D plate S1's that are known the figure will be roughly 50 S2's.
Hope this helps. :top:

Hi guys, sorry to bring alive this thread but how many D reg S2's left now.....? Lol

I have one from Oct 86 but not sure whether it is original or has been re shelled. I am told all Escort RS Turbos came with tilt and slide sunroofs but mine has a pop up only one.

Any thoughts??

It's probably been re-shelled. All series twos have tilt and slide sunroofs.

RSmark84 07-04-2016 09:25 PM

Mines still alive Oct 86 built reg Jan 1987. I stripped it and found it was better than lots of E,F,G & H plates I've seen. Still on factory fit front panel(minus headlight panels) rear panel, Front wings chassis legs, Rear panel. The roof was fine, But the sunroof had a slight hole so chopped it out. The 4 floor pans had a couple of patches each so just chopped them out to tidy it up, battery tray replaced and both outer sills replaced as one had a hole and the other had a couple. I replaced both rear arches and a little bit of each inner arches.

Dont worry its unlikely its been reshelled, just a lower spec sunroof fitted as the tilt and slide sunroofs fail alot. plus to replace them they are expensive.

borboyous 07-04-2016 11:27 PM

Mines a 'D' plater on a private plate out here in Queensland, Australia. Has a tilt and slide sunroof and has been here since 1994, 90 spec stuff added as you can see plus a colour change from rosso to radiant red. I also have a series 1 which is a project which hopefully I will have time to finish.

Wow, that looks stunning! Good work.

So you reckon its had an aftermarket sunroof put in afterwards??

James Porter 20-05-2016 10:14 AM

Mines a D reg..... Although not much of the original metal is left !

TurboBoost 07-06-2016 01:11 PM

I've got a black D - Reg one.

Apart from a little work needed to sills last year, its solid as anything and probably one of the best bodys I've seen on an S2!
