Default door catches, fitting central locking

ok, i have my standard door catch mechanisms from my base spec popular doors, but im fitting the central locking solenoids from an rs turbo, as my doors are now delocked, and i have no choice but to go remote central locking though my alarm lol

will the slonoids operate my base spec catches, or do i need a particular catch, ie off an rs turbo, for the set up to work? side by side, externally an rs turbo door catch looks the same as a base spec, but i personally only own the base spec catches, so would be nice if i can just refit them and job done

any ideas?

also, fitting the solenoids, anybody got any pics of them fitted into a door etc, as i kind of have no idea how im fitting them lol

Yes mate the handles are exactly the same. i've recently fitted central locking to my orion, which was, once upon a time a POV " L" model.

The catches are fiddly to fit but not too bad with abit of patience.
I got my "guide" from the haynes manual.

looking at the haynes, im assuming all im adding here is the white box of tricks solenoid/motor, which will then just do the job that the barrel lock used to do, and attach to the same lever etc? meaning all my existing handle, catches, n rods etc remain as per boggo spec?

that said, the haynes isnt exactly the clearest i will admit

you dont take any bit off. You "hang" the solenoid from an eyelett already there on the mechanism then screw the solenoid to the inner door skin. it all sits in the door cavity.

i'd have gotten you some pictures but i literally only yesterday refitted my door cards, ad i'm sorry but i'm bollocksed if i'm taking them back off again! sorry mate.

haha no worries mate

every single bit of my door is still off from them being stripped for the respray. but i stripped a base spec door of its bits yesterday, so i will just refit all the catches, rods, and handles as a reverse of that, and then hang and mount the solenoid after

my main worry was when i went thru my spares boxes, i had door catch mechanisms that had different colour backing plastics, and got me to wondering whether they were specific for use with central locking, but i guess not, must just be an age thing.

spose i might aswel ask now, did u run your own wiring for the central locking solenoids, or use some original higher spec loom? i have an rs loom in mine now, and i did run the central locking loom to the footwells ready, but not sure whether to just run new wires to be safe

i ran an orion ghia loom for the central locking, windows and mirrors, god bless ford they used all the same connectors, and obv orion has a couple of extra doors so the central locking loom is slightly different.
