I'm doing a little bit of restoration to my ERST and following shotblasting I was thinking about whether to paint the suspension components, or have them powder coated...

Yup. Powder coating will be better than paint.

To be honest my old fella said if I wanted to keep it standard and show it, I'd be best off painting the parts just as it would have come from the factory. I can understand what he's saying, but hammerite or powder coat would be harder wearing...

i have recently powder coated all of my suspension parts, came out really well and if the metal is a tiny bit pitted the powdercoat helps hide this abit

Get something powder coated and then paint something! You will then be addicted to powder coating!!

Have a look through my resto for powder coating shots, sooo much better than painting things IMO, if you want it to look stock, satin black is great.
