Default Should fan wires be live?

Hi chaps
need to rig up my twin Rad fans.
I put a meter on the fan connector plug next to the rad too see which one was live and earth but neither seem to he live.
I had the ignition on but car not running.
I'm guessing one of them should be live.
Checked fuses and they fine
put a meter to the fan fuse and it's live.
Am I missing something here ?
Do they only become live when up to temp ? As I thought the earth was switched by the fan switch.
I'm sure one of you geniuses could explain this to me
cheers peeps

without looking at the manual, the 12 volts must be switched by fan switch

Does that mean that one of the wires to the connector should be live and the fan switch switches the earth ?

I always was under the impression it went like this:

earth--[-BATT+]---[fuse]---[switch]---[fan]---earth

From memory, RS Turbos are switched positive and Cossies are switched negative.

when hot the temp switch operates which supplies the fans with 12volts.

You can unplug the switch and link the two terminals in the plug which will do the same thing.

As above, bridge the fan switch wires, that will bring the fan on.

Well I've run the car to warm it up and one of the terminals becomes live once the temp gauge gets just above halfway.
Thanks for your help guys.
