Who uses their rs turbo daily?
Hello everyone. My mates thinking about getting an rs turbo for his next car, just wondering if many people use them as a daily car? What kinda problems are common etc? What are they like on cold starts?
I use my 5turbo as a daily but havnt used it this winter, pretty reliable to be honest, obviously old cars need an extra looking after, if I was to ever sell my 5 I'd be looking at the likes of the series 2 rs turbo my self, so would appreciate any advice of good and bad points, and what to keep an eye on.
Cheers Benj.

I used mine everyday but off the road for winter only had 48k on it when i got it. ended up with 89k in 2 year and it never broke down once, serviced and fueled up. rust is the main problem really if they are gonna sit around all day they disapear into a brown mess and I warped the brakes a lot even with tarox discs they are terrible

Ive driven mine daily to work n back for over a year and a half! Apart from new gearbox n cam when i first bought it, its never really had major issues, changed cams, fuel pump relay went, but thats about it! Starts firat time every morning with a lil gas, and everythings still in tack! Depends how u drive/care em really! Always warmed up before a thrash, always cooled down, driven sensibly, oil change every 4-6 months with good oil!! Only issues is rust lol my arch is starting to bubble up, roof also startn to show bubble! Apart from that jus maintenance!

I used mine daily for a good year or so and it didn't have an easy life.
To be fair all the original parts held up fine its just a shame the previous owner had an engine fitted that was complete rubbish.
either buy a solidly built modified one or stick to sub 200bhp near standard one and you'll be fine.
driving it every day if you have quite a high powered one you will find the weeknesses in the rst quite quickly........

Be careful with a fast road/track spec. e.g
Be careful with a fast road/track spec. e.g
- if you are running a paddle clutch - then you will hate traffic moreso than others
- track brake pads - remember they need heat and therefore might be pony when you get to the end of your road
- noise - if you have a loud exhaust it will annoy you and don't forget the noise of everything falling to pieces inside the car - rattles etc lol
- no power steering - may hate if your mate likes modern motoring
- keep an eye on rust- treat it early rather than letting it spread.

Cheers everyone, yeh I'm the same with my 5. Always let it warm up and cool down and gets regular oil changes etc. Also agree on if there's a problem fix it before it gets worse lol.
What kinda bhp are the engines capable of? Can you get a reliable 200bhp? And what are the areas that are most likely to rot? I think the most common area iv herd is the arches? What about sills? Verry common place to rot on gtturbos lol

escorts rust everywhere
watch out for the arches/batt tray/roof.
Don't see why 200bhp can't be reliable if done correctly of course. I regret not doing my efi when the car was off the road, as being a daily and being busy at work means I haven't the time to pull it off and get it done. (saying that its not that much work - just me being lazy lol)

Cheers lads, suppose it's the same with any car isn't it as long as you look after it, especially old cars. They are steriotyped as being unreliable.
All this talk is making me want to get one lol, but we'l see what my mate thinks because he's a bit worried it could be another money pit of problems.
What kinda quatre mile times have been done by rs turbos? I'm hoping to be in the 13s with my 5 this year

i used mine as a daily driver i personally had a few problems couldnt get fuel through to the injectors but i got that sorted then i had a sensor pack up on me then, i chased my mate in a 1.8 sri corsa and he wooped my arse lol, so took my car to torwue of devil and then it blew up LOL
but rebuilding now looking for around 210bhp mark and it will be used as my daily driver so using new and as much heavy duty bits as possible and sticking to 210bhp so it stays as realiable as possible but gonna hook a boost controller up so i can get the extra power for santa pod days track days etc

i use my rs turbo s2 everyday and i take it everywhere but i think u shud take in2 account the rs turbos are now old cars so just be sensible
and also keep it standard or if your going to mod it make sure its done correctly and stay around the 200bhp mark on mfi, if u want realible daily use
make sure the car is serviced and regular checks oil water etc
and u shudnt have any problems
